so i'm budgeting for a trans, checked out jakes and the stage 2 th350 is 2200 750hp rated which is fine for what what i need. The 4l80e thou muscle car kit runs 5600..

is the 4l80e that much better?!? i mean geesh 3400 for an extra gear? yes you get the parts to get it going but wow that's a huge jump for an extra gear. is it really worth it on a strictly street driven car?
anyone running a 4l80 trans that can give me an idea of yes it's worth it over a th350?

You're not taking into account that the Musclecar Kit comes with a converter ($950 retail) a controller ($685 retail), a TPS kit for the controller ($125), a mechanical speedo tailhousing ($700) and the transmission.

Jake is not a fan of 200-4r in anything else but a grocery getter. Definitely not behind a healthy BB.

Please don't try to answer for me. You obviously don't know what I believe.
I ran one for years behind the big block in my own Chevelle.
I have had 200-4Rs in 900 HP Grand Nationals. It's a great unit IF you can find cores and parts and in the hands of a knowledgeable builder.
My business has transitioned to mostly customers with 800+ HP.

Maybe I should pull up the myriad of emails from ULTM8Z where I gave him advice for free and he chose to do other things. EVERYTHING that I warned him about, on each of his attempts at improving his car, came to be true.
I warned him about all the vibration and fitment issues with a gear vendors.

I warned him about the issues with a 6 speed 4L80E that he tried and failed at.

I advised that a looser converter would wake the car up. He did finally realize that one.

I wonder where I garnered all that knowledge?
I wonder how much money and headache he would have saved had he at least taken some of my advice?

It was a bad trans mount smacking the body. Guess it’s great now.

It was a structural floorpan brace that he cut out to make enough clearance for the GV.

I recommended against cutting that out and mentioned that GV doesn't tell you all this when they sell you their unit.
They also don't talk about how many fail.

Again EVERYTHING I warned about ahead of time came to be 100% true.

Now we play the waiting game and see how long it takes for the sheetmetal floorpan to sag enough to get into the Gear Vendors again.
