so i'm budgeting for a trans, checked out jakes and the stage 2 th350 is 2200 750hp rated which is fine for what what i need. The 4l80e thou muscle car kit runs 5600..

is the 4l80e that much better?!? i mean geesh 3400 for an extra gear? yes you get the parts to get it going but wow that's a huge jump for an extra gear. is it really worth it on a strictly street driven car?
anyone running a 4l80 trans that can give me an idea of yes it's worth it over a th350?

Yeah, if you have a mildly modified engine, a TH700R4 would probably be the way to go. Non-electronic, just a basic tranny with an overdrive. A well built one can handle ~500 hp.

well i've got planned a 468, .620 lift roller cam from straub tech with afr 275 heads, goal is 620hp but won't know till i get all that together. so a trans handling 750 if i decide to grow a bit more in HP later but seriously no more then 650hp. The th350 would be a drop in and go.

Jake is not a fan of 200-4r in anything else but a grocery getter. Definitely not behind a healthy BB.

If you're looking for reliability behind a torque monster that you have go for a 400 if you don't care about overdrive or for a 4l80e if you do. I'm sure the 350 from Jake's will take the abuse, but a 400 will be more reliable in the end.

A well built 200-4r will live behind 700 ft/lbs torque as well as anything else

Recently finished a nother 200-4r with billet input drum, hardened pump stator, upgraded number of frictions and yadda, yadda etc. In the end of the day it's all down to the weakest link in the chain and when you have all the parts going through your hands you know there are a lot of weak links in a 200.
Just look up a price of a unit capable of handling 700 ft/lbs and compare to a pretty stock built 4l80e which can handle this kind of torque day in, day out....

BTW, Ckperformance is the guy to contact for a 200-4r (or parts). He is fabricating upgraded parts in house and is one of the last beliebers in the capabilities of this unit.
