Purchased a Hays Twister 3/4 race torque converter for my 700R4. What would be a good choice of fluid for it? Need a special brand or type that works well for performance converters?

I'm running Dextron -VI full synthetic transmission fluid in my TH350 racing transmission that has a 4500 stall converter , reverse manual valve body and transbrake

Trans temps have never been above 200 deg when using the transbrake

What does the manufacturer recommend? Then still, last thing to worry about when choosing ATF is the converter, as the steels and clutches will be long gone before anything will happen with the converter.
(High) stall converters generate heat when stalled (too) long or during regular driving if mismatched with too tall/numerically low gears. Heat kills transmissions.

Every new dextron is an improvement of the previous type and can be used with any type of transmission. I would just pour some DEX VI in it and worry more about the adjustment of the TV cable than about the choice of ATF.

Guys its DEXRON not DEXTRON , please ! Also it is not uncommon to run Ford fluid in a GM trans, many builders suggest this regardless of what the OE mfr. states. Ultimately the OP must choose a quality product he can feel comfortable using. Your results may vary as they say ...

Ford Type F Transmission fluid has friction modifiers or more of than the Dexron.

I used the B&M trick shift fluid which is essentially the same fluid as the Ford Type F on my TH400 build by Rossler.

Rossler even recommends 50/50 mix of Dexron 3 and Ford Type F Transmission Fluid on 1500HP or less application.

Personal opinion: friction modifiers to a transmission are like octane boosters to an engine, kinda bandaid.

Put the correct frictions in the correct group (flat vs waffled), set the clearances correctly, run the correct line pressure for the engine output. You notice a red line? It's the word correct.

Then you don't need a friction modifier and even can run DexTron in you transmission...
