Picked up a new gas tank to replace my leaking one on my 70 and it needs a deep cam vented cap. Unfortunately the manufacturer put the fill tube that requires the deep cam gas cap. I’m assuming it’s the same fill tube that the evap tanks use. I’ve ordered a couple and it seems they are all non-vented. I’ve tried “Motorrad mgc-807” and “Gates 31722” (which is a repackaged Motorrad brand anyway). These both fit but are non-vented and my carb runs low on fuel. When I tried to reuse my old cap, it won’t turn, not even close as the tangs are hitting the ramp of the cam lock. My tank only has the hole for the sending unit, not all the other connections for evap and what not.

You could take both tanks to a rad shop and have them swap necks so you can use the 70 gas cap. Or just swap the top few inches which could be done at home with a welder and grinder.

luttys sells them
Thx. I just looked at their website, but the one they have listed as deep cam and vented looks like the same one I just bought. It is Motorrad brand in the pics and everywhere else is listed as non-vented. And like I said, my carb float levels were down after driving and a big wooosh of air when I remove the cap so I’m assuming it wasn’t venting. Can’t see the top of the gas cap to see if it says vented in the pic so maybe it’s a different model?

I might have to have the tank modified. Unfortunately it’s already installed and filled with gas and used. Amazing no one sells a cap. Chevelle guys seem to have the same complaints
