Heres how I fixed that area on mine, hope it helps:

Thanks Motion. Pretty much what I had in mind. Did you have to fab the outside piece on yours?

No, I installed full rear quarters so I didnt have to make the outer.

The rear quarters have a flange that sandwiches in between the rocker and that inner brace I replaced so when I made the brace I held it up off the rocker using a piece of 18guage scrap to leave myself a gap.

Good job on that patch layout. I had to do that two but I think I used two pieces of metal and welded them together. Did you save the template? That would be a cool thing to make a copy of and post in a sticky for others to download.

Picked up this hood today for $30. Little surface rust but that is all. Turned out the guy I bought it from had my car and sold it to the guy I bought it from. He also told me the rear end is a 3:73 and not a 3:42. Gears have been swapped and I think he said it was a eaton posi. I have never taken the cover off yet. Small world.

Finished up these patches today. Ground what I could get too. Not too worried about the way the welds look here as they are all covered up.
