A little more progress today until I screwed up royally. More on that in a minute. Here is the section I am replacing fully removed.

And I cut the replacement one to fit and tacked it in place. It was a goodmark piece from Summit but fit like crap. The contour at the bottom wasn't even close so I had to massage it quite a bit.

And then this happened.....

IMG_1162.JPG

I was using the grinder with a heavy grit flap disc on it and caught my finger. It was one of those moments where my brain said "don't do that stupid" and I did it anyway. Fortunately I dont think it's as bad as it looks. It didn't bleed much but I don't want to get any metal shavings and what not in the cut so I'm gonna have to leave the sheet metal and body work alone for a couple of days. I've got plenty of less messy stuff to work on anyway. I have the bottom dash pieces out and need to dye them black, I got the SEM paint this week so I should be good to go on that. I also need to work on the shifter insert for the new console.

Thanks guys, I'm super grateful I didn't take off my thumb.

Been doing some easier stuff this week. Powder coated some of the dash brackets, painted some of the plastic with SEM and started running the conduit for the vents on the Vintage Air set up. I gotta say, this is my first time using the SEM line and it works really well. I used the adhesion promoter and followed the directions. It seems like the dye actually bonds with the plastic not like its just painted on, it leaves a pretty durable finish.

Car is looking awesome!

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I know other guys have taken longer but after about 3 years of working on it I just want to get it mostly done so I can enjoy it. I'm off this week so hopefully gonna make some solid progress.

Put some of the dash together today so I could do a better test fit on the 5th gen console. I felt like the console was a tad to high so I trimmed the back to get a better fit.

I decided to trim the original rear mounts off and trim the back to lower it about an inch. Here it is with the mounts intact.

And with them removed.

Here is how it looks in the car. I still need to line it up a tad and mount it. Pretty happy with it though.
