Hello, im contemplating on how to order a quadralink rear suspension from detroit speed. they offer the kit with or without the axle brackets. the ford 9in housing they offer with brackets installed is about $1500. So my question.. is it easy enough to get a durable bare 9in housing without flange ends, have the brackets welded on and flanges welded on or should i just get the detroit speed housing all pre made?

If you are a talented welder and have the fixtures to weld the parts in place then do it yourself. If not then get it already done. At the very least you will need a housing fixture to align the housing ends for welding them on.

And i do not have an alignment fixture so i agree with you to just get the housing with brackets installed.

I was in your same boat a while back and here is what I learned....Detroit Speed knows best....I contemplated getting a bare housing and having someone like MOSER install the brackets for me, but what the hell do they know about DSEs products? How many brackets have they welded for DSEs suspension for s 70-81 Camaro? Are they proficient at it? What if its wrong? Have them slice the brackets off and do it again? Hell no!!

I had Detroit Speed provide a complete ready to bolt in, powder coated housing and that was the best decision I ever made (and cheaper). I recently had a full floater housing ready to go from DSE and no issues. Detroit Speed/Gear FX has done tons of these housings and have a fixture to specially install their brackets and they are TIG welded with precision. If I were you, I would go full floater now and prevent the extra expense I had to endure. No way would I buy someone elses housing and have another person install the brackets....

Unless you have some "special" issue....better to let the "manufacturer" do what they do! I have done several back half's (many yrs ago) ... back in the day we used mostly Morrison stuff...ALL Morrison stuff.... It only took 1 time of "i can make....." Yeah I CAN MAKE most anything...but for the $$$$ vs TIME.... I can't even come close. I make what I MUST...nothing more.

Thats why I talk to people that have been there before. thanks for the responses. Ill order the full floater all at once through dse. the hassle of finding..then hoping someone will weld brackets on and flanges to the right spec is going to be a nightmare. Im also under the impression i should do the c7 hubs, not c6

I think im searching for almost the same setup in the rear as you have. What brakes did you go with that fit? I have a set of ss4's from baer brakes that will not work anymore since they're for the stock 10 bolt

I have BAER 6Ps. With the DSE set-up you can use C6 or C7 applications (you specify with DSE). I do have spare parking brake backing plates you’ll need with the Baers.

If you buy a kit meant for a C5 or C6 it wont come with parking brake components. They assume you will re-use the factory ones. I think DSE offers a kit from BAER that includes parking brake stuff, but its insanely over priced for what you get.
