AC fuel pump date code research data

I originally started this thread earlier today on the NCRS Forum. Many of the 1970 fuel pumps listed below are from members from this forum from an earlier thread. I started out researching STAMPED date codes on AC fuel pumps while I was doing a frame-up restoration of my 1966 Corvette from 1979 to 1995. This research still continues as my passion since 1990 has been the 1970 Camaro SS350.

I would appreciate it if anyone that still has the original AC fuel pump from his or her Corvette/Camaro/Chevelle/Nova would post the appropriate information on this thread.

I am totally convinced that AC fuel pumps have a STAMPED date code incorporated into the stamped AC part number starting in 1965. I have never found a STAMPED date code on a 1964 or older AC fuel pump except on rebuilt pumps made with random parts.

I hope the non-believers will at least keep an open mind to my stamped date code theory.

You already have. You have a "LI40726" pump (Dec. 1969) from a 70 Z28 but I do not have the date from the block. You also have a "197J40726" pump (197th day of 1970). I started a thread about 1 year ago "Factory installed 1970 Z28 or SS350 AC fuel pump".

I really do not have any pictures. I believe that there are photos of 1970-1972 Corvette AC pumps on the NCRS Forum. I still have a few used 4657 AC pumps and a NOS "058T40777" AC pump in a box dated Aug. 1977 for my 70 Camaro SS350 project. I sold all my NOS and used 4657 AC pumps back in the 1980's. Most of the data in my research is from others.

The "JI40777" (Oct. 1969) pump with the 3/26/70 engine date is yours. You were the only one with a SS350 fuel pump that responded to my thread about a year ago. My objective was to get more examples of original 40777 pumps but no such luck.

Here is my theory on why you pump is dated so early:
According to my 1970 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (effective Jan. 1970) the 40777 fuel pump (GM # 6470310 in Gr. 3.900) was an exclusive new 1970 part as indicated by an asterisk (*) following the model year (70). Production of the 40777 pumps obviously began in the Fall of 1969 (or even earlier) and since these pumps were not used in the 1969 Camaro production they just hung around until the actual 1970 Camaro production began. When these pumps were finally installed on 1970 Camaro SS350 models I am sure they did not "rotate their stock" like supermarkets. Fuel pump date coding was not a concern on the assembly line. With the transition from the 1969 model to the 1970 model I'm sure it took awhile to get back to normal production.

Thanks, the first digit sure looks like a number "2" making the stamping "229K40956" (229th day of 1971 or August 18, 1971). I added this to my data above.

The 40956 pump was original equipment on the 72 LT1 but apparently was never sold over the counter. The 40709 pump (GM # 6470110) was used on 1969-1971 LT1's and also used as a service pump for the 72 LT1. I would think that the 40956 pump would be quite rare. The 40709 pump (GM # 6470110) was still available from GM into the 1980's.

Do you know the engine date code or any other date codes on the 72 LT1?
