Same with the TKO, looks like the only improvement for torque handling was 3rd gear. The case improvement helps too, but by the rating, the gears must be the weakest link. The torque rating can only be based on the weakest link so a case improvement is meaningless to a point

I have autoxed a tko 600 for over 10 years with no mechanical issues. I have a strong 427 sbc with over 550 ft.lbs. so the tko 600 is strong and reliable. I have always had a poor 2nd to 3rd shift tho, even after I installed carbon synchros. Not looking to upgrade to a tkx . I can live with the poor 2nd to 3rd shift.

That has essentially been my argument for current TKO owners. When I had my transmission worked on they replaced the blocker rings I think and the shift tabs? It was a way better shifting transmission after that. The work was done by a Tremec authorized repair...they were looking at it for the shifting issues under warranty and I paid to have the upgrades done since they already had it apart. Many shifting issues can be attributed to bellhousing alignment. The shifting was noticeable from the 355 to the LS1 where I did align the bellhousing.

Not sure if this will work ( my computer skills) This is a 17 minute video of a Mustang getting a new TKX... Be forewarned, The guy doing it is going for his 15 minutes of fame....
If this link does not work go to....
Stangnet.com --- then do a search for "Tremec TKX 5-spd"....
go to page four, post #67 and play back the video..... Same transmission bolted up to a ford 302...
Spoiler here: I hope you have $2800 lying around.....

Jesus, you weren't kidding. I don't mind cheery people, but that guy should only be taken in small does. Almost sounds like a paid review. Once my TKO had some warranty upgrades, I cant imagine how the TKX can be "from another world" by comparison.

People are just funny....The TKO600 was a perfectly fine transmission and other than having a 6th gear, I really can't tell a difference between it and the Magnum. If you had shifting issues with the TKO (like he said going into first), you probably had clutch release issues or the trans wasn't properly aligned (something was wrong). I know the 2-3 shift got me a couple of times, but I was on the drag strip shifting at 7000rpms trying to shift rapidly (which carbon blocker rings helped). The new Tremec is totally geared to make 4 speed to 5 speed swaps easier in old cars. The TKO was bulky on top and required more work than the Magnum even though its bigger. Other than better HIGH RPM shifting, once its installed you won't even be able tell the difference. No way would I pull a TKO 600 to buy a TKX unless you want to take a loss on the TKO.
