Thanks for the link, that's a really good process shown. I have a little experience with nickel welding and a lot with Tig. My main concern is with keeping the axle straight. Have you ever had issues with the axle warping or loosing straightness? Or do you plan to straighten after the weld process?

It will warp. You can minimize it by doing short runs a time and going from side to side.

Then you need a jig and a torch get it straight.

I have a tru-track...I vote Eaton posi for a street/strip car. The tru-trac is a autocross preference, but I hate it everywhere else.

I just don't think the wheel lock-up is immediate like a posi. If I go out and driving and hit the gas, both wheels don't immediately propel me. When I had a posi, it felt much better at the strip and aggressive straight pulls on the street.

OK so I decided to repair the existing plugwelds holding the axle tubes in the rear housing because they had noticeable pin holes and the weld was not completely sealed around the edge on a few. As soon as I hit them with the Tig torch at 165 amps they opened up showing a lot of porosity within the weld. I don't know how common this is, but my guess is that this could be the reason why some axles break loose under high torque. I got a full weld puddle going and eventually worked out all the porosity. I used stainless steel filler wire. Once I got the area clean of all rust it flowed well and fused with the housing.

So are you saying you prefer a locker on the street vs a limited slip
