Was out for a drive today, all was well til I was upshifting from 2nd to 3rd and the shifter jammed which looked to be in the neutral position. I coasted to a stop with the clutch in. This has never happened to me before.i crawled under car enough to see the most forward rod was not up and down so when I moved that all was well again. What can I lubricate the shifter with to solve the problem from never happening again, or was it just a fluke?

You have the worst shifter GM ever put in a car. Use white lithium grease. Better still buy a Hurst. I sold a new ITM several yrs back and tried it in my 70 Z28. All it did was jam.

1st time in 10 years since I swapped the auto for the 4 speed it has given me an issue. Guess I have been lucky til now. I see part #3918791 will work for my 76 with console, but looks like I need to get an additional installation kit too. About $900 for shifter and $500 for instal kit (#3738609). I see a local guy has an old unit that was never used part #291-8402 but I can't seem to find any info using Google. Also a hurst comp plus unit.

You can use the stock rods on a Hurst shifter. OEM rods are bigger in diameter than in a Hurst kit so you don’t need the kit.

OEM rods are on top.

Then it just bolts to my factory plate? The old stock shifter (hurst comp plus) that was never used that is local to me shows a part #291-8402 on the box but I don't get anything on a Google search. I'm probably better off buying brand new in the box anyways. That is bonus that I don't need the instal kit. Looks like hurst #3918791 unit will work for me.
