I drive a 2018 GM truck with the 5.3 V8 and gasoline direct injection. Has anyone used this top engine cleaner with a direct injection engine? How did you get the cleaner into the engine? Is there a better cleaner to use?

The GM top engine cleaner is what we used to clean injectors in the 80's and 90's but it's not the same formula as back then and does not work as well now. I use Chevron Techron and it does a good job for me.

I have a friend that has been a mechanic since the late 80s and he told me the formula changed and was not as good as the old formula.

The old stuff, smelled just like Marvel Mystery Oil. Not sure about the new one.

On a DFI engine, doing some sort of pre valve fuel cleaner isn't the worst idea to keep oil from building up in the valley pan or on the back of the valves.
It's really a two person job with one person running the throttle and the other slowly introducing the cleaner into a vacuum line or throttle body (like one does with Seafoam).

For awhile STP was making a cool setup with a timer built onto the can that would slowing disperse the cleaner over a couple of minutes making this a 1 person job. But I can't find it now
