Hello all, maybe someone can save me some time here. 79 base Camaro, automatic, non-tilt column. I’ve had the top of the column apart, replaced all switches, key mechanism, harness, repainted housing, etc. I didn’t have the shaft out. All back together less steering wheel. Rebuilt intermediate shaft. Upon trying to reinstall intermediate shaft, noticed the upper column shaft is free to push up out of the column. I’ve studied the diagrams, and can’t see definitively what is supposed to retain the upper shaft assembly from pulling up out of the column. Not sure if I missed something (most likely) or if there was something missing to start with (this heap was a complete basket case when I got it). Can anyone tell me before I completely disassemble this thing again? Not sure if it’s at the top of the column or down at the engine bay end.
