Seems a bit of a gap in the numbers. The engine is a late January (27th) assembly and the partial VIN number is very late March. Two months that the assembled engine was sitting around? I'm not an expert, but maybe this is OK? I think there may be a few others here who have a database of numbers for comparisons. On my Norwood car, there is a differnce of about 3 days.
I currently own a 1970 Z28 that is a 04A Van Nuys built car. This car has been judged several times and with no doubt retains the born with engine case/block. My blocks casting date is C30, and the build date is 0311. According to NCRS my car had an official production date of 04/07/1970. IMO the engine block in the subject car is not it’s born with block. The build date is way too early, and I agree with previous comments regarding absence of broach marks and stamping in consistencies.

Yes, LA cars had stripes which would match if a car had a vinyl top.
Does this mean Norwood had two sets of stencils, for vinyl and non vinyl top cars?
Early LA cars had front stripes that stopped short of the rear of the hood as well.

The "7" should be a "1" in the number to the left and I am not able to make out any broach marks. I am going to guess a very good re-stamp.
The different depth of the various characters is not a common thing I have seen either.
Question regarding the 7 vs 1, why does it need to be a 1?
In addition to lack of broach marks, doesn't the remnants of the circular marks suggest the block was decked, but possibly stopped short of the emfront pad.

1 = Chevrolet
0 = 1970
N = Norwood, L = Van Nuys
then last six of VIN sequence.

This stamp is done on the vehicle assembly line.
The V stamp is done at the engine plant (V = Flint for Z28)

The two marks are defects.
Can't see any broach marks. Appears to have been decked and re-stamped.

It looks like they put this together missing some things and added the chrome ring tail lamp lenses. No Z21 on the build sheet. Missing the reaminder of the trim. 3310 carb dated 0323. A Jan 27th engine is very early for a 03B (March 10th per cowl tag) car. If I were buying this car I would inspect the engine block closely, especially the casting date. It looks like a very nice car.

I thought the 127 = Jan 27 for assembly date. Am i incorrect in my assumption?
