NastyZ28.com - the most comprehensive numbers decoding site on the net   Camaro L82 Z28 Engine Specifications

The 1973 & 1974 Z28 engine (L82) is similar to the LT-1 with the following EXCEPTIONS: the intake manifold is cast iron with a Rochester quadrajet, the camshaft is hydraulic.
The cylinder head casting #'s differed, but the combustion chamber was 76.18cc for both years. Pistons were flat with a notch for valve clearance at high RPM. This combination yielded a 9.0:1 compression ratio. The air cleaner was either an open element 14" round air cleaner (1973) or the dual snorkle style air cleaner (1974). The 1974 dual snorkle air cleaner is unique in that it was smaller than previous years, and later in the year it was dimpled to accomodate the new HEI distributor.
