Hey guys, I was setting my valves again today and noticed that the Trick-flow roller rockers are galled in the area where the screw in studs transition into a flare where the hexagon shape is. Ill have some pics up here later. The only thing I can think of is that the pushrods may be too short. Any suggestions?

I would concur. You may want to entertain lash caps, longer pushrods, or a combination of the two.

Um whats a lash cap? Also, there is no wear pattern on the valve tip to determine this. What increments do pushrods come in? Im pretty sure I have stock length ones.

thanx

Lash caps are a hardend cup that sit on top of the valve tip. Comp, Manley, etc sell them. You can buy quality pushrods in .050" increments.

I'm surprised everyone doesn't use lash caps. They are cheap insurance against beating up the valve stem.

Ok, lemme understand this. If I put a lash cap on the valve/spring, that will make my pushrods effectively longer?

what it will do is raise the rocker arm up (like having a longer valve tip) which will move the rocker away from the rocker hex.

I think I have some on some other heads, but it looks like for what I need, pushrods would be easier to change right?

We use the Super Locks set-up for lash caps. 10° You can gain or loose .050 assembled spring height real easy for a inexpensive set-up. A solid or maybe a mild roller cam. We need some pics..Good Luck

The pushrods are a better option because the lash caps can be an issue with keeper/retainer interference. Make sure your geometry isn't out to lunch with the longer pushrods, you may be forced to run the caps as well.

P/N 621-16 if you need them, the outer lip must NOT contact any part of the keeper or retainer, dropped valves can result!!

Hey Rust, how exactly are the lash-caps installed? Does the valve train have to be dismembered? If so, I think I will try one size longer pushrod. When I assembled the engine, I did the test where you mark the valve tip and run the rocker over it to check the witness mark. If I remember correctly, the roller was more inside than out.

They sit on top of the valve tip, there's a recessed hole that the valve sticks in. A longer pushrod should move the rocker contact further outside.
