My brothers hooker mufflers are burning out and he is starting to look for some new exhaust.
We've both heard a factory 69 Z with chambered exhaust. But we are wondering if the aftermarket chambered mufflers sound the same as the ones put on the Z's?
How loud are they?
They probably are not as loud as our purple hornies we have on our 79 Z, right? I don't think he wants that loud.
Does anyone have an audio clip of some?
If I remember correctly, they have their own distinctive sound, right?

Your opinions about them?

GMMG Inc. Makes a chambered exhaust, and I believe Summit is selling chambered mufflers now too. The GMMG site has sound clips and vidoes of 4th Gen Fbods with their chambered exhaust kits. From what I remember, they're pretty pricey though. I would think that they would be just as loud as those glasspacks, as they're pretty much just straight tubes with perforations in them. And yes, they DO have a sound all their own, it's called LOUD!IIRC GM stopped offering that option half way through the '69 model year becuase they were too loud for the street.

They are loud and have a distinctive sound. We did a retrofit on an older Corvette and it ran better with a stock style exhaust. The chamber mufflers lasted about 2 months before it was converted back to standard style mufflers.

If you want loud though thats the way to go.

I checked into chambered exhaust also. The guy on the phone said , if you like loud these are your babies. I also heard this exhaust on a 69 at the Good Guys in PHX. At idle they souned very impressive. Never heard it get up though, he was in the show grounds basically puttin thru. Owner said they were repop's he bought thru Classic Ind. I think. I ended up with American Thunder System on mine.
