Has anyone ever put ghost stripes on their SS car just to do something different? I was thinking about doing this with my car to break up all that color a little bit, but am not sure it would be worth the effort.Any ideas or suggestions?

I did them on my 77, took about 4 hours, most of the time on mapping out the stripes. All I did was mix some blue pearl in with clear coat and sprayed. I get a lot of compliments, well worth the effort------------------ Peter '77 LT, New 350, 600 Holley , Performer Intake, Hedman Headers, 2 1/2 dual exhaust :) '79 Z28, no motor or tranny :( '68, 250 6 cyl. 3 in a tree, all original

Considering that a ghost flame/etc. can only be seen at certain angles and cannot be seen at all (at least my interpertation of a ghost flame/etc) without direct sunlight hitting it. If you like the color of the car without stripes on it, then go for it.If the car looks too plain (without stripes), I'd advise against it. Half the people who use the term "ghost flame" have no idea what one is.

Ghost stripes is exactly what i was talking about, i would only want to see them at certain agles. I would just want to do something suttle that most people would not notice until they actually see the car up close. I like the Z stripes, its just that a lot of people frown on that when you put them on an SS car.

Do you have any pics of yours that the stripes show up on that you could send me?

In that case, I'd say go for it.

I did ghost stripes on a car I once had.. The whole car was a color I mixed myself.. a blue pearl with silver metallic base coat, and along with some clear I mixed a tiny bit white pearl and sprayed that on for stripes... looked really great and only showed up when you got up close to it or when the sun was shining bright.I'm actually thinking of doing that again with my Camaro..

Who cares what other people think,do your car the way you want it done and screw anybody that doesn't like it..You bought the car because you like it,so let it reflect your personality.

i like the idea of ghost stripes too, since my car is a true SS i don't want to "fake" the z28 stripes, y'know?

For all of you who are thinking of painting your stripes on the side (ghost or regular)like the 80 - 81 or Stencils and Stripes now offers a stencil package including the hood scoop. Without the hood scoop it is $175 and with it is about $275. I am sure of the $175, but the complete package is not as sure. My is charcoal gray and originally had the red to orange stripes. I am going to try diluting the color in the clear. I have a test panel that will serve to make sure my idea will work as a reality. Just thought I would pass on the info about the stencils as I have been looking for them for 5 yrs +.
