Ok, after reading the forums and learning a bit, it looks like I have a lot more work to do than I first thought. These Pics are from the first time I went to look at the car, I got lucky and bought it without really knowing what I was getting. I knew it was a Z28 but I didnt know how special the 77.5 was. BTW anyone have numbers on how many Z's were produced with T-tops for this year? [This message has been edited by 77Z28Banana (edited November 04, 2003).] |

Hello banana: As for T-top production for 77 = 0 You car has an aftermarket T-top conversion. T-tops were not introduced on camaros until 1978. Try to click on your photo link and see if it works. It would not work for me. Please post another photo link, I would like to see your car. Banana, did you look at the cowl tag on the drivers side, under the hood, next to the windshield, and see if it has Z28 stamped on it? Dan |

Well, so much for restoring it, guess Ill have to go the other way with it now and make it a true American Muscle Car and start dusting riced out imports! Now try the link to my pics, hope it works this time. Oh and if anybody is savy with the code, I have a pic of the dealer invoice posted and the only place it says Z28 anywhere is on block 23, does this mean that I got a fake? Well, immediately after posting this, I saw in the far right corner third one from bottom says Z28 SPEC Perform hopefully this is real. Not every Z28 had that option code stamped on their cowl tag. I've seen (and documented) several that didn't. But all of the build sheets that I've seen had a large computer generated Z28 printed on the bottom though! Always always always look for the build sheet to document a car (start under the rear seat bottom cushion!) |

Ill pull that cushion off asap and see what I find. That was the dealer invoice I had posted. That was handed to me when I bought the car. Hopefully Ill find the build sheet and let you know. |

Banana: I have great news for you. The picture of the dealer invoice or build sheet is very helpful and I looked at it carefully. If the vin on the build sheet(top right hand corner) matches the vin on the dash, then you have a real Z28 , or a camaro that has been rebodied as a Z28. I could see the following RPO's, M-21(close ratio 4 speed ) comes only on a Z28, also GT-4 ( 3.73 axle ratio ) comes only on a 4 speed Z28, also BW-1 ( rear ornament delete ). These three option codes are exclusive to the Z28 and no other model. Your car was Brown exterior with buckskin interior. As far as restoration, the top could be cut off and replaced to get rid of the t tops. Dan |

Banana: I found one thing odd in your photos, and this is the reason I mention a camaro rebodied as a Z28. Your header panel emblem ( located between the upper grill and the hood, in the center ) appears to be red , white, and blue. Is this correct? All Z28's should have a header panel emblem color coded to the stripe package. The red, white , and blue emblems were not used on Z28's. This does not mean that the factory couldn't have screwed up , or someone could have changed it later on. Dan |

Banana, The dealer invoice you have pictured IS the build sheet. So unless your 77 had more than one, which is entirely possible, you already have it. Also, concerning the header panel emblem, to the best of my knowledge, there were three different ones available. There was the 1. red, white and blue, 2.the orange, black and red 3.the gold, black and brown. The original emblem may have faded and been replaced with the only remaining emblem available a few years back, the red, white and blue one. |

Banana, I just dug out two build sheets I have from what I know to be 2 authentic 1977 Z28s. I tried real hard to enlarge your build sheet while keeping some legibility, so bear with me while I try to put your mind at rest. First, the main body of the build sheet lists all the equipment codes, pretty much in alphabetical order, left to right. Your car seems to have the BW1 option, which may read either "DELETE DECKLID EMBLEM" or "DELETE RR ORN", which was mentioned, as specific to the Z28 to eliminate the standard Camaro rear badge, which Z28's didn't carry. Second, your sheet seems to have the GT4 code for 3.73 axle ratio, available only on a 4 speed Z28 (not the regular 4 speed Camaro). Next, you seem to have the code 92A, which may read "BROWN STRIPES". This is where the color stripe package matching your body paint and interior color was listed. Also, your sheet seems to list the code QRZ, which on my two sheets says GR70-15 tires (available only on the Z28). Lastly, if you look in the top right of the sheet, in box 23, which is entitled "EXHAUST", you seem to have the correct "Z28" in that box for the special Z28 only exhaust. By the way, in the alphabetical section of the codes, after any "U" codes (ie: U35 ELECTRIC CLOCK), there may be a code that reads; Z28 SPEC PERFORM (or SPEC PERF PAC), I couldn't really tell on your sheet, but I thought I made it out. One last thing. One of your photo's shows part of the air cleaner, where it says "5.7 Litre" ... does it say also "Z 28" on that piece? All '77 Z's got that air cleaner, and I doubt anyone trying to make a fake car would try to finf one of those fairly rare (and not so beautiful) air cleaners. Congrats! |

BTW guys, anyone know if the 77 z28 350 was EGR or not? or did it depend on location? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I haven't got a chance to take off from work to go pick up the car yet. |

Yep - the '77s had EGR. I believe EGR came into widespread vehicle applications at GM in 1972. ------------------ |

Hi, guys! I got to my first parade tues. with "thunder beast." The Vet. day parade was a short parade through the VA complex here in Prescott Az. My club had 20 cars entered. Thank God it was all sleightly down hill so I could just stay in neutral and glide. Every once and a while I would gun it up to about 3 grand and let it bubble-pop back to idle. THE CROWD WENT WILD! One Vet. was pumping his fist and yelling "light it up!!" So I let the beast speak. I thought he was going to bounce right out of his wheelchair. 'course I got chewed out by one of the club members...screw 'em. I think I need a new club. |
