Glad to see there is some intrest in the 77 Z28. As a org. owner I have seen the value drop and then climb. Obtaining specific part's are a real problem for this car.
Here is a a bit of information, on the firewall behind the motor and to the heater box side there is a white crayon marking Z28, on this Norwood unit. My Z still has the factor exhaust with that unique sound.
I still have the LM1 (63k) with the Turbo 350. In 1989 a Code ZZZ with TCI 350 was installed,(2k on this setup) this set up was influenced by a article in Car Craft of that year. As a first poster I belive a link to pictures should work let me know. I have one question why is the Grill Z28 Emblems in different location mine is in the higher position.

Actually, spacific parts have not been that hard. I'm an E-bay warrior. That grill badge, the orr. shift ball, and several other wierd parts all came from there.

Talking about hard to find parts for these cars, the thing I cannot find is a grill emblem. Mine was missing when I got the car and I have been watching E-bay and other web sites for one. The one I need is for a white car with the red/orange stripe colors. After reading everyone's comment on firewall markings and on the valve covers I checked my car (138,000 miles) and found nothing on the fire wall or valve cover's which are not on the car but I still have.

To answer a few questions. I bought the car in Aug 1977 after returning from vacation. It had just arrived on the dealers lot and with the Lt Red and Blk int well it was just had to have it. This is the first year I have drove it in the last 3. The plate is the original issue and is now under historical status. What a paper work nightmare in NY, took 3 months to activate.
Yes the front Grill came new from the dealer that way and I have no explanation for it, though I do have new spare, may some day I’ll change it. I have repainted the car in 1990 with the correct coded Martin paint, The lower front spoiler was broke and replaced with a GM replacement. As for the stock 185 hp motor it didn’t cut it that’s why the ZZZ was modified and installed in 90. In the last few years I haved toyed with the idea of a 502. When I get time I’ll look at the original motor an see if there is a marking on the valve cover and report on it. Of note the Crager SS are around 25 years old. The car has taken trophy’s when show. I always get a lot of questions from people about the Z.
To date I have seen 2 Blue, 1 Lt Red ,and 1 White 77 Z28’s in person remember this is in the last 26 years, talk about rare, the rarest Camaro I have seen is a 67 Z28. There were two 77 Z28 that were sold this year both were Lt Red the first was a 63k car that went for 12 G and the other was a 9k car for 17G. When I seen this, it was a shock, that a $5800 Z could bring this much. So the 2nd generation at least certain models are starting to get their due respect.
The posted 77 Z28’s are very nice in deed. You owners must be proud. As for nice pictures thanks.

Joe, did you say that you've seen two blue '77 Z28s ?????? That wasn't one of the seven original colors. They did come out with a very nice blue car w/ blue stripes in '78, but I've never seen or heard of one in 1977!

Yes 2 dark blue, similar shade to a 70”s vintage Chevell. It was if I remember at the Super Cruise East, Hot Rod Magazine, Watkins Glen in 85. I went down in my 70 Nova (no longer own), and there I saw 2 77 Z28, s side by side the first one was blown and caged the second one was a highly modified stock they were like twins. They were identified as 77 Z28’s and emblemed, but I did not look at trim tags because at the time no one had interest in 77,s and all I could think of was, to new of a car and gee I got one of them. Though this year at a very large cruse there was a Lt Red 4 speed car like mine out of Albany and resold at a local lot a few years ago based on displayed paper work, the trim tag and paper worked matched, tried to find the owner but couldn’t. I still would like to Pro Street one and this looked like a clean example and a spare parts car for mine, the wife said NO many times to cutting up mine, so I gota look (she still remembers the Butternut 67 RS I sold in 73). Well I’ll try to locate the 77 again in the spring. If one is seen in the Rochester Ny area let me know.
Kenny77, (thanks for the complement) well my son says the same thing, that’s why there is a rev limter, his setting 3500 rmp and mine is 7200 rpm, I trigger the fasten seat belt light for use as a shift light.
I see there is a form on investment cars well I don’t see mine as an investment, I’m sure it’s worth more than when I purchased it (with stock motor and trans the ZZZ stays with me). People always like to talk about the car, I answer their question and we talk, I say thank you (rule number one) and remind them it’s ONLY A TOY. So what price on investment cars my answer is what the market will bear.
Posted more pictures 2 pages now also the build sheet is posted (last two numbers of vin # blocked).

As large as this form is getting to be, have we, as posters accounted and displayed all codes: 11, 13, 19, 51, 69, 75 & 78 by posting members

Joe - what do you mean by 'displayed all codes'?

Well, my '77 Z is code 75, lt red. We used the color codes from the "camaro restoration handbook" to formulate the paint.

Gang - do any of you know if our front spoilers are still available from GM, or if not, who carries these parts? I'm having a heck of a time trying to find these parts on the web.

Classic industries carries the spoiler and extentions. They are NOT cheap. Mine were in a box of pieces that came with the car. It made a HELL of a deferance in the handling after it was put back on. The car without it would rear up every time I met a semi on the 2 lane hwy. After the spoiler was back on, "beast" keeps it's nose right where it's 'sposed to.

I don't have a factory record of just how many '77 were done in each color, or which was the most popular, but I have seen a bunch of these cars over the years (not many lately, I must admit) and I had an earlier post (page 4) on this thread in which I said I had kept track of a few dozen cars that I had seen back in the early to mid '80s, and the breakdown by colors. Not scientific, but pretty good rationale, I believe. Check that out for reference, it's a pretty good sampling.
I still believe white and brown were the most popular myself, followed by yellow, red and black, least popular (no offense, just the recollection of a guy who's loved these cars since they were built and noticed every single one he ever passed near in the past 26 years!) were silver and orange, in that order.
By the way, two hundred and sixty posts on this subject! I thought when I started it that I might get two or three responses to this! Nice story on the ZL1 by the way, I've been waiting a while to hear it! Thanks.

Rich M No offense taken. I would rather have less popular color to make it more exclusive. Here is my ranking of colors from what I have seen in person, from greatest number to the least number. Black, White, Brown, Red, Yellow, silver, Orange. I have only seen 1 other silver 77 in person, besides mine. I have never seen an orange one in person, only on EBAY.

Since 1977, I have only seen three silver cars. That includes mine, the one I saw just like it when mine was about a week old, and one I saw about 1980.

That's it.

I've seen two red ones, one when it was new at a gas station in Illinois, and one a year later at UCLA in the law school parking lot. I saw one black one.

I've seen several yellows, quite a few whites, and the first one I ever saw at all was like the brown one above, which makes two brown ones.

I've seen a few obvious fakes.

Now that's on the street in everyday life.

When I went to Long Chevrolet outside of Chicago which called itself the world's largest Chevrolet dealership, I saw at least 25-30 new 77s, all of them automatics, in all the colors offered. Is that cheating?

I'd sure like to buy my 77 Z28 back. It's a 4-spd with A/C, tint, tilt, posi, console etc Z. I ordered it new and sold it and ordered a 78 Z28. All my Z's were 4 speeds. I should go to the DMV and get the owners list and see where it is today, unless it's sleeping in the bone yard. I still have the dealer order sheets/price and opt list from my 77,78 and 80 Z's. I also have the broadcast sheets from my 78 and 80 Z's. I don't think I ever saw the one from my 77. Oh ya, and I still have all the Dealership warranty paperwork that I got when the cars went to the dealership to get stuff fixed under warranty.
