I did get a chance to talk to the owner of the brown 77. he is the original owner if I remember correctly. Rich , did you see my silver car, I was about 50 ft from the nastyz28.com tent. I was parked next to a yellow 78 z. |

Funny thing, what never comes to light. Stopped at barnes & Noble tonight to pick up the latest Hemmings Muscle machines, and stopped at the Transportation section to look at the Camaro Books. Spotted one I don't recall seeing before. Opened it up to the mid 70s pages, and saw something I had never seen before (and I read all the mid 70s camaro/Z28 stuff I can find!). This book went year by year, had a bunch of mis-information about the '77 Z (as usual!) but there in the 1976 section was a photo of a Rally Sport Camaro that stopped me in my tracks!!! What was different about this photo, you ask? Well, it was clearly a Chevrolet PR picture of a yellow '76 Rally Sport, but it appeared to be some sort of prototype, one that foretold of the future styling cues of the '77 Z28. This particular Rally Sport had .... body colored bumpers!!! In this case yellow. But wait, it gets better! This car also had body colored [I]wheels[/] .... not the lame 14" Camaro "Rally Wheels" that were common to the Camaro back then (Nova's, as well!)but rather it had yellow Z28 "Trans Am" style 5 spoke wheels!!!! I didn't buy the book, but I'm having second thoughts and will post a pic if I buy it! This Rally Sport definitely showed what was to come in the '77 Z28 trim package! |

quote: Dan, that's definitely the car I was talking about, but that doesn't appear to be the same book... where did you find that photo? No, didn't get to go to Carlisle last week. |

Dan77, Funny thing, due to something at work, I was only able stay at Carlisle until about 2:00pm or so on Friday, I had gotten there very early, about 8:00am. What a beautiful day by the way. As I was leaving the area heading toward the PA turnpike, I saw this silver 77 Z28 coming toward me in the opposite direction,(it was you Dan). Nice car, too bad I couldn't have turned around an BS'd with you a little once you got to the fair grounds.(dam work). Anyway, I did spend a while at Jeff's old yellow 77 Z28, took some pictures, and thumbed through the scrap book that was there. I also looked at the 78 yellow Z28 you said you parked next to. Another beauty. I'm sure Saturday was probably the better of days, as Fridays turn-out was a little lite. Still well worth the trip however. |

I wish they would have given an award for the long distance driver, I might have won that prize. Thanks for compliment Adam. Glad you got to seeit, if only briefly. Rich, that picture of the yellow rs in this book called "THE GREAT CAMARO" and was also titled as "THE CAMARO BOOK FROM A THRU Z28". These are the exact same books written by Michael Lamm. I originally bought it in 1981, and I picked up a second copy a couple of years ago on EBAY. It has been out of print since the 80's. |

Here is a copy of "THE GREAT CAMARO" on ebay. It has a 15 dollar buy it now, very reasonable. Here is a link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=35930&item=6542605127&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW [This message has been edited by Dan77 (edited June 30, 2005).] |

Geez Dan, I just did an E Bay search last night for Camaro books, and didn't see that one! How much '77 Z28 info is in this one? |

Hey, all Dan77 and I are at the Camaro Superfest in Ann Arbor MI. We'll let you know if there are any super rare 1977 Z28 cars there. I'm sure we'll see tons of Yenkos, ZL1s and other common Camaros but I doubt we'll see any other rare 77 Zs. If anybody's going, come by and see us. We'll have a awning and display. See ya |

We're back. The weather was perfect for the Camaro Superfest in Ann Arbor. At the last minute, I decided not to drive my 77 Z and rode with Dan77. It was a 6 hour drive one way so we both drove his. Had a race with a LS1 late model Camaro on the way back and both cars were an even race up to 110mph where we ran out of gear. At the show there was a slick 24,000 mile black 77 Z28 besides Dan's 77. In tha afternoon a guy showed up at our awning and said he had a 77 Z28 but it was parked at a neighboring parking lot and he didn't enter it in the show. We walked over to look at it and it was a beautiful all original brown car. We tried to convince him to enter it but he just wanted to stay for a little while. It looked just like it came off the showroom floor except the paint had a little spiderweb cracking. So you could say there were three 1977 Z28s there. BTW, there were no 1974 Z28s. We did see two nice 1977 Type LTs. Wayne |

Wayne, thanks for the report. I wish I lived closer to Michigan - I'd really like to go to the Camaro Superfest sometime. ------------------ |

Here are some pics from the 2005 camaro superfest. The pic of the silver car is mine and the other 4 pics are of this original owner car that was very slick. Note the under-carriage shot which shows the original catalytic converter in place. The only thing that wasnt original on this car was the tires and battery!!! Everything, and I Mean everything else was there and unmodified!!!! This car was not in the show, it was in the parking lot. The owner didnt think it was good enough to show! This car made mine look sick! click on the link below to see it. Dan http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/cobra1993ky/album?.dir=abcd&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos |
