BUILD SHEET ALERT !!!!! I have begun compiling build sheet info into a format that will allow me to look for common items between individual cars, as well as to note differences between cars. There are over one hundred blocks of information on a build sheet, and I am trying to identify what each of them was there for, as well. Better people than me have already tackled this on F Bodies, and I am using their research as well. I currently have build sheets from a handful of you, perhaps I have more but haven't finished locating them in my notes (almost finished with organizing them, by the way). If you sent me your build sheets, or posted them on this board, please check in here to let me know, or e-mail me at [This message has been edited by rich m (edited May 15, 2005).] |

Usually the brown exterior cars had the tan/brown stripe package. Has anyone ever seen a brown exterior with a red/orange stripe package? It sure looks like the ad in the back of the 77 brochure has a picture of a brown car that appears to have the red/orange stripe kit. Any opinions? |

quote: Dan, the answer to that question lays at the question of whether anyone has ever seen a brown exterior color Z28 that DID NOT have a tan interior. I have seen white exterior cars with a tan interior that had the tan striping, and a white exterior car with a black interior that had the orange. The same holds true for a black exterior car with those same interior colors. Of all the '77 Z28s I have seen over the years, I don't recall ever seeing a brown exterior car with an interior color other than tan! As for the brochure, when I first saw that ad for the '77 Z (in brown with the tan interior) I also thought the car had an orange stripe package, and told the dealer that that was the color I wanted to order. Information we have today shows that without knowing the proper code numbers (and a dealership couldn't have had those codes in their hands back then!), that would not have been able to happen. I think the car in the brochure and original print ad was an early production car that must have had the orange stripes instead of the production tan stripes that the exterior/interior combination called for. |

For those who collect 1977 Z28 articles, I spotted this rare one on E Bay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ViewItem&category=280&item=6961246487&rd=1 It's a rare one, don't miss out! Here's another: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=280&item=6960794481&rd=1 [This message has been edited by rich m (edited May 19, 2005).] |

The guy I bought my '77 Z from also had previously owned a brown 1977 Z several years ago. I'll ask him next time I see him about the interior colour and the stripe package. ------------------ |

Whew !!!!! I just finished another pretty important part of the '77 Z28 Project..... scanning and filing every magazine article or road test in my collection. About 18 in all, an average of 4 pages each! Add to that the Factory Literature I've already scanned (Mid Year Dealer Album Insert, Press Kit, etc.) and the dealer brochures (regular Camaro one, and "Sportiest Chevy" one), and that's quite a file. I've also organized every e-mail I may have received from other board members, or people of note that I have contacted for additional research sources (retired GM people, current Chevrolet PR people, magazine writers past and present, Camaro historians, and on and on!) I also have set up "templates" in which to place data (cowl tags, build sheets, VIN's, etc.) to compile and then compare data between cars (between the cowl tag and build sheets, there's about 150 different items to enter PER CAR!!!!). Now I just have to enter the data I've already received from a handful of you. (IF YOU OWN A 1977 Z28 AND HAVE A BUILD SHEET THAT YOU HAVE NOT SENT ME YET, PLEASE CONTACT ME AT; rmcdermott1@surfbest.net TO ADD YOUR VEHICLE DATA TO THIS PROJECT, WHICH MAY YET BECOME A 1977 Z28 REGISTRY!!!) Patience please, things are happening! |

rich m, I would love to email you the data from my build sheet, but unfortunatly, it is too faded to read. If only I knew of a printing restoration process that could bring back the faded ink. Please email me if you need any help regarding gather information for your project, and I'll be glad to help out if possible. |

Adam. I would like to take a crack at your build sheet. Do you have a scanner? Dan |

Dan, I do have access to a scanner, and will scan the build sheet and email you the file. By the way, is that your orange metalic '77 that now appears with the photos of your silver Z? Also, are you planning on going to all GM Carlisle with your car? |

Adam. Please make as high a resolution scan as you can. The Orange metallic Z in my photos is not mine. It was for sale last year on EBAY. It did not meet the reserve, and I emailed the owner after the auction. He sent me those photos. I had plans to buy the car when I got a computer virus which wiped out my hardrive. I did not know how to contact the owner from that point. I was hoping that it would go back on EBAY, but it did not. It was a 13,000 mile original mint condition car with the original tires still on it. Wish I could find out how to get a hold of the owner! Adam, I will make you a challenge! If you will drive your 77 Z 4 hours to Carlisle, I will drive my 77 10 hours from Louisville KY to Carlisle PA !!! |

GREAT NEWS TODAY !!!!!! I received a much anticipated call from ...... Jerry Palmer!!!! Jerry was chief designer of the Chevrolet III design studio and had a huge part in the development of the 1977 Z28, and was responsible for the appearence of that car. We touched base for a short while, and agreed to talk in detail later. I'll keep you all posted. [This message has been edited by rich m (edited May 24, 2005).] |

Dan, I will try and make the resolution as high as possible, but it is very faded. Sorry to disappoint you, but I won't be able to take you up on that challenge. (I appreciate it however). Call me overly cautious, but so many of the components on this car are still 28 years old, that I would hate to spend the day stuck on the New Jersey Turnpike waiting for a flatbed to bring me home. Someday(yeah right), I'll get it there. |
