Again many thanks to everyone. Dan, I appreciated the e-mail info and I checked everything and it's all there so maybe it's a Z afterall. I used to deal with GTO's so I'm kind of a nervous ninny when it comes to clones. i'm glad there are folfs out there that arn't as lazy as I am to do the research. |

I do not follow this thread, so asking if SOMEONE would send me private Email...... Will the former Jeff Betz "BEST IN THE WORLD" 77 Z-28 attend Camaros at Carlisle???? and how many of YOU 77 Z-28 enthusiasts are showing up for Carlisle.....just a little inconsequential gathering of Camaro enthusiasts........ ------------------ |

Wow - this topic is still going strong! Hey Rich, how's it going? I have to admit I was one of those that stopped looking at this topic after a certain moderator went at it with an axe way back when. Glad to see it's been brought back to life, though. ![]() My car is like Dan77's - silver with black interior. I have the original bill of sale, and my cowl tag has it built "03E", which I take it is 5th week in March. The only problem with my car regarding bringing it back to stock is that it has been heavily modified with an 8-point rollbar, TH400, sumped fuel tank with all braided lines, manual steering, glass front buckets, etc. as a street/strip car. I bought it as a rolling chassis that way. I am the 3rd owner, and the car still has all it's original paint and factory decals. The only part externally missing from the car is the front spoiler. Granted, I like the car a lot, but sometimes wish the 2nd owner had not taken out and sold the original drivetrain, which was a 4-speed, 350 LM1. The factory clutch pedal is still there though, to remind me of how it 'once was'. I've though seriously of restoring the car back to it's former self, but that would require a lot of $ and effort. For now, I'll just enjoy it as it is although I think down the road at some point I would like to reinstall power steering, take out the spool, etc. Laurie - I see you're from Bridgewater, NS. I too am from the valley - Kentville boy here. I now live in Surrey, BC. Interesting story on my '77. The original owner bought it brand new off the lot on April 29, 1977. The car sold for $6600.00. Documentation fee was $15.00, sales tax $462.00. Total out the door $7077.00 in 1977 Canadian dollars. I believe back then the Canuck buck was worth about the same as the US greenback. The car's first owner drove it from 1977 to 1980 or so, before storing it in his basement garage for the next 15 years. The next 7 years it sat in a barn. In 2002 the 2nd owner bought the car and built it into a stout street/strip warrior. The Z went a 10.77 on the bottle (leaning out and burning a valve). He pulled that engine for another project and I got the Z in January '03 as a rolling chassis. I put in a 413ci small block which it still has. Glad to see there are guys out there that still like this unique and rare car. ------------------ |

Hey Dirt! Nice to talk to a Valley boy.I was born in Middleton, lived in N.B./Que/B.C. and finally back to N.S. in 1968(Army Brat).Lived in Bridgetown summer of '69 and moved to B'water that fall.I was a FO*D guy for alot of years(my Dad was too!) and am guilty of dreaming or Boss 302's/Mach Ones and 427 Cammers.BUT I have seen the light and bought my first Zed (69/M-21/302)almost 9 years ago.Now I have a 77 which I bought last January which I really enjoy to drive. The 69 was really nice but I was scard to death to drive it cause God Forbid, something might happen to it!Now when I go to a car show I see a few 69's and NO 77's.Kind of a treat to be the only one!

Hey Dirt, doin' good, how about you? Yeah, the thread seems to be picking up a bit of steam again. Maybe some of the "veterans" will jump back in and along with some of the "newer" posters start asking questions and turning up more info? 500 posts .... hmmmm, deja vu, no? By the way, I spent my weekend cleaning up my files and getting completly organized. Scanned my factory literature, dealer brochures, photos, misc. papers, including my original order forms etc. Also went through close to 200 e-mails that I've saved between all of you and some people I contacted last year to do research (factory folks, former automotive writers, current Z28 owners, what have you). Got those all organized too! Been busy getting ready to pick up the trail again! |

Laurie - my Dad was in the air force for 28 years. He was last stationed at Greenwood. NS sure has a lot of military bases. ![]() Rich - glad to see you're back compiling the '77 Z28 database info. Should make for some highly interesting reading when you're done. ------------------ |

rich m, As an owner of a '77, and someone who can't get enough of these cars, I can't wait to see the results of your efforts with all the information you're putting together. Thanks very much. |

Thanks, Adam. You know, looking back through the almost two years of this thread, it amazes me how much we have learned about this one particular model. I have learned things from all of you, and I also somehow learned from items I have had for almost two decades in some cases, but had never realized was right in front of me. And there's still so much left to learn! |

Okay folks, I give up. Where can I find a grill emblem for a black 77Z. |

Hello, everyone. I bought another 77 Z since my last post. Dan77 and I went to South Dakota to pull it out of the cornfield and drive it 1100 miles home. The seller thought I was crazy and, well, maybe I am. Anyway, I bought it on eBay for a parts car for my rust free white car. It had just the right parts I was missing. Dan77 and I are able to use most of the car between us. Will Dan77 and I have the only 77 Z28 cars at the Camaro Superfest again this year. There were COPO Camaros and ZL-1s galore so ours were the rarest at the show!. We also had the only display for a specific year. I still have never seen a 1977 Z28 on the road. Ever. I've seen hundreds of 67-69 Z28s, however. It's fun driving the rarest Z28. Wayne |

quote: I don't know who is doing reproductions of these, or if you can order one at a dealership, but I do know that they are color keyed to the interior color.... so it's one of two different colors depending on which color interior you have. |

Viking. I have good news and bad news. First the bad. To my knowledge, no one reproduces(if any of you know of someone that reproduces this, PLEASE post it!) the grill emblem. Now the good news. the front of the 78 emblem looks the same, but the mounting tabs are different on the backside, because of the number of slats in the grill. It can be modified to work on a 77. I have seen it done. If you cant find a used 77 emblem, you might have better luck finding one for a 78, since they made 40,000 78 Z28's. If your car still has the header panel emblem(the one right above the front grill) that will tell you what color grill emblem you need. Either red-orange or gold-brown, are your two choices, since your car is black. |

Someone on the message board e-mailed me and said they have a 77 and a 78. The 77 is red and I think that's what the car needs. Since I was last on I've gone through a few crannies and found the remnants of the old stripes on the lower inside edge of the door and at the very rear of the car. Just a few specks but I can make out red and orange which matches the header emblem of faded orange, black and red. Some parts seem easy to find and others darn near impossible. |

quote: Rich M. On black or white cars, have you ever seen a black interior with the gold and brown stripe package? Are you saying all black exterior/black interior cars have red orange stripe packages, and all black exterior/tan interior cars have gold and brown stripe packages? |
