This is the page that that link brings you to, for 1977 Z28's: Automotive Recalls and Technical Service Bulletins for 1977 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 V8-350 VIN L 4-bbl.
Bulletins for 1977 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 V8-350 VIN L 4-bbl; Service Bulletins: 79I27 OCT 79 Engine - Adjustment for High Altitude Operation
Anyone who works in a garage that is equipped with an Alldata computer system can look those TSB's up, as can anyone who works at a Chevy dealership. I would have to imagine that both of those TSB's are for ANY 350 4Bbl 1977 Camaro, not just the Z28, as they all shared the same LMI 350 motor. I worked for years as an outside salesman for an aftermarket autoparts distributor, and many of my customers had an Alldata system. Matter of fact, I was in touch with Alldata this week about an opening as a field service rep in the New England market. Small world! Oh, COPO, I don't have any plans in the immediate future to get myself a '77 Z28, but it's something I'd like to do in the years ahead. Only I might make it a red one this time, with a correct 1977 L82 (with some "not quite OEM" tweaks in it!)just for the "what if" school of thought! By the way, anyone who can legitimately document a 1977 Z28 as coming from the factory with an honest to God L82 or L48, will get some kind of bonus from me ..... I have absolutely no idea what that would be, but I would think of something cool to reward that person!!!! |

I dought that a L82 or L48 ever came in one. It wasn't offered, unless someone tried to make a so called COPO with friends at the dealership. Rich, you interested in buying a yellow Canadian 77 Z28 with paperwork? Recalls and TSB's: Okay here's one for your original 4 speed owners. There was supposedly a recall on the 77 manual trans's because the shifters fell apart. I know an original owner who had it happen and has the replacement shifter. The brochure says that Reverse is relocated to right/down from the left/up position. My car was a pretty much unmolested car with 76K on it when I bought it in 1990. I'm not sure if it is the original shifter or the one replaced in the recall, but the shifter is left/up for reverse. I've never seen a 4 speed any other way on a 77 Z28. Were the early ones replaced and then later cars had the "old style" shifters? ANY INFO? I know the shifter knobs are fairly rare too, and mine matches the left/up scenario....???? Jeff |

Always left and up. Never heard it any other way. [This message has been edited by COPO (edited February 23, 2004).] |

Can someone tell me if the 77 Z28 came with an AIR pump for a Canadian Car? How about a US car? ------------------ |

quote: I don't believe so. U.S reg's pretty much set the standard for what the manufacturers did, and in 1977 there still wasn't all the crap in there that we have today. Mostly it was an EGR valve and a catalytic converter. A.I.R. injection ( a.k.a. "smog pump") was pretty much an '80s thing Dan, as for your question, the Registry is down the road a bit, as the article needs to come first (if it hopefully does come to fruition). If a registry is to happen though, it would be nice to set it up BEFORE any article would appear, so that it could be listed in the article for maximum promotion. As for the article, the first step is to do research, and before doing that, sources need to be identified, located, and contacted. I'm doing that right now, and it's taking some time. When I finally do identify, locate, and contact someone who may have important background on this story, I have to wait to hear back from them, and that is taking some time. It IS happening, though! |

Why I ask is that they had them on the Z's in 68 and up. So why drop that later in the years? I have a engine photo of my 77 but with A/C, it's a tight spot and I can't see anything in the pic. ------------------ |

COPO, I may stand corrected, I'm not sure. The link below for AutoZone (not that those people have a clue about what they're doing!) shows a listing for an A.I.R. pump check valve, but not for the tube or the pump itself (???). If such a part was on a Camaro (Z28, or a regular Sport Coupe or LT with a 350-4V) maybe it was in California only? http://www1.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker/?UseCase= C001&UserAction=answerRequiredQuestion&Parameters=%7C%7ELEFT+HAND+SIDE+% 28SITTING+INSIDE+VEHICLE%29&PageSync=6 [This message has been edited by rich m (edited February 25, 2004).] |

Rich, yup I found out that it was LM1 Cal cars only. BTW Can't find the guy on 411 unless he's gong by his middle initial and I found the closest was in AB Canada. I spoke to a lady and she didn't know, so I said I'd call back. Don't even know if it's the guy.

If the car was "junked" back in 1982 (either it got too beat up to fix in just 5 years, or it got "totalled"?) wouldn't there have to be some record of disposing of the title back then somewhere? A salvage title or something? Maybe a "boneyard" owner or employee could answer that for us? The odds of it being with the same owner these past 23 years are just as good as it getting junked after being just 5 years old, I'd say. Still, you'd think that lady would know if someone in that house had owned the car for all those years, wouldn't you? God luck. |

I got the 666 my friend. Just had to jump in there. I've never seen a post go so long before. I was thinking that someone could print this up and make a book! Awesome info and conversation my friends. Have a good one! Bob |

Don't know how many of you have seen this, but since this is a '77 Z28 thread, I thought you'd all get a kick out of this one:
If anyone knows of Pierre H. Dupuy, let him know he's in this thread now! [This message has been edited by Eric (edited March 26, 2004).] |
