Rich, I sure hope you get a 77 Z registry set up. That would be awesome! I forgot to mention the window sticker(that I sent you ) prices are in Canadian dollars, that is why the numbers are high. Dan |

We all are aware that part of the reason Chevy also considered bringing back the Z28 in 1977 was because they now were involved in the legendary IROC series. No sense having a dozen Camaro's running racing's top pilots around those tracks if you couldn't capitalize on it, right? So when they decided to bring back the Z28, the first hint of that appeared on the IROC Camaro race cars in late 1976, before any public talk of the Z's return was promoted. It was actually very easy to overlook this connection ...... take a peek: and a second, later look at one of the IROC cars: These photo's were taken a few months apart and appeared in auto magazines of the period. Notice how the sponsorship markings differed in such a short period of time, and how subtle (almost undetectable) the Z28 logo appeared. The fact that this is the same graphic Chevy wound up using on the production model, and that these cars were marked this way in late 1976, belies the lead time of the actual 1977 Z28 project! It truly didn't happen all that quickly! [This message has been edited by rich m (edited February 11, 2004).] |

Rich..sorry it took so long to get back on here. Anyway I did check the cowl tag which says 1FS87. I can't read anything else. I don't have much other info on the car since I am the third owner, so no build sheet or window sticker. The only signs I had of a possible dual badging was some things the car did have that a Z has as well as an LT and I confirmed them in a book I read just for fun. Another book I have also sayed that the Z WAS it's own model in 77, but could be combined with other models (i.e LT Z28). The RS was also available for dual badging (i.e. LT Rally sport). However not too sure on if the LT RS was available for sure in 77 but it was in 75 and again in 78 when the RS became it's own model. That's as much info as I had other than the typical b.s. most people try to tell you when you buy a car. |

LTZ, thanks for the reply ..... did you say that the cowl tag DOES say 1FS87 ??? Stop the presses, you may have a "first" here!!!! I know the car has had several owners and you have no paperwork, but please do two things as soon as possible: 1) Look underneath the rear seat bottom cushions, and anywhere else in that interior where a build sheet may be hidden (even checking the backside of the glove box!). 2) Please e-mail me the VIN and cowl tag info as it appears on your car. This is the first time I, or a number of us here, have heard of a 1977 Z28 having 1FS87 on the cowl tag instead of 1FQ87 !!! You may have yourself a pretty rare car there, my friend! Thanks for your co-operation LTZ! |

Hey Rich - go for it on the '77 registry! In fact, maybe we should get a group of us here with you as the lead, and create a 1977 Z/28 homepage with some info and links on it on our cars. Now that would be cool! ![]() My cowl tag reads: 1FQ87 BTW - thanks for those pics, Rich and others! Wow - this thread is loaded with *great* info! ------------------ [This message has been edited by Dirt Reynolds (edited February 12, 2004).] |

i hav'nt read all your comments on the 77 z28 lt but i have the build sheet and window sticker for my car. the build sheet list the lt interrior as code 19n. this is not in a box as other rpo codes but near the bottom of the sheet. they did infact build z28s with lt interrior but they were both seperate models. |

Mike, I (and I'm sure a lot of others), would love to see your car at Carlisle this year. If not, please post some pictures for us to enjoy. -Nick |

OK, time for another little treat ...... hmmm, let's see what I can come up with now.... if those of you who haven't e-mailed copies of your stuff yet promise to be good and send them real soon, I'll post something nice ..... like ....
Now let's get this research going full steam! Do your parts by e-mailing whatever you have, and I'm in the proccess of contacting several Chevy PR/Historical folks as well as retired engineers. This thing is picking up speed! LTZ, it's important to see if you can find a build sheet or something to back up the 1FS87 on the cowl tag. If it's a Norwood car, maybe it has "Z28" stamped right on the cowl tag (I don't think I've ever seen a Van Nuys car that said that, though to be fair I've seen a heck of a lot more Norwood cars than Van Nuys in the East). Without back-up, one could always wonder if someone in the past took a Type LT V8 car and just slapped the correct exhaust, some sway bars and a tranny in it and put the right trim on it. I'd love to help you back up that this is a legit rare car! [This message has been edited by Eric (edited March 26, 2004).] |

Mark, That is the issue that '77 Z28 afficianado's all know too well!!!! The infamous Car & Driver "T/A vs. Z28" story!!! I do have it, thank you, but if any of you out there don't, by all means look for it whenever it comes up on E Bay. You won't be disappointed! Fanatastic article, off the charts photo's, excellent, excellent piece! For you '77 Z28 lovers who want to catch up on the magazines that featured these cars, go back to pages 2 and 3 of this thread. Nick (nwZ28) and I give a thorough list of all the issues we have found articles in. If anyone has an issue that we missed, by all means please let us know so we can try to update our libraries. Thanks. |

Rich, I have a friend in the Vintage group in GM and he's going to run my VIN # from my 77 Z8 to see if anyone ever requested the option list package. If so I'll track my old car down this way and if it's a dead end then I'll go to the DMV for the list of owners.
