These posts were on a different thread that was started on the '77 Z28. Don't know why he didn't just put them here, maybe he didn't want to be part of this thread, maybe he wanted to start his own thread, I don't know. I only know that they should be a part of THIS thread, so I'm going to try and paste them here, where they belong as a part of a remarkable thread!

While junk yard prowling today, I found a rough 77 Z28 in the bushes. As I said, it's rough, needs quarters, door skins, cannot tell about floors. No motor or trans. Needs lots of stuff so I don't know if it's worth anything for fixing but has rearend, front frame with brakes and steering and other minor stuff. It's $400 so I'm going to pick it up and take a look at it. What do you think, Fix or Part? Oh, by the way, it's BLACK (19).

I'd part it:
Get every unique 77 Z part off of it.
Look for the rare header emblem, black window trim, etc.

JJ, when you go back to the boneyard, do all of us a favor please .... take a few minutes to either grab the cowl tag or write down what is on it. Also, see if you can find a build sheet (again, start by checking underneath the rear seat lower cushion) and grab that too. We may be able to use some of the info on either for this thread to learn more about '77 Z's. Thanks.
That rear end might be worth getting just for the Z28 ratio in it, if it's a posi/limited slip.

How come this isn't part of the '77 Z28 thread we've got going, by the way? Let's keep that one going strong and post replies there instead? Thanks.

Rich

Have a question for all of you who actually own a '77 Z28, or used to and can accurately answer this question (please post answers here):

I'm pretty sure that these cars could have either of two diferent color dash panels.

What color is your instrument panel face? Most had a simulated "leather" color, didn't they? I think the other was a light gray. When you answer this, please note your vehicle's exterior and interior colors for reference, as well as if your car had cloth or vinyl seats.

Doing a little research for that potential article. Thanks. Jeff, can you shed any light on this as well? Was it dependant on your interior trim level? Thanks.

No, mine has a wood looking dash bezel. I "think" the vinyl look was on the other models. Mine is a code 75 lt. red exterior with black vinyl interior. It's also the only scruffy thing left on mine. Can't find good old ones and no new ones as yet being made (that I know of). I even tried aftermarket to no avail.

Mine has the tan dash panel also. Black vinyl interior, silver exterior.

Here is a pic of my dash panel, Rich.

Rich, That "Leather" Gauge bezel was part of the "Interior Decor/Quiet Sound" Group, RPO Z54.
"includes glove compartment light and additional instrument cluster lighting; simulated leather applique on instrument cluster; special engine compartment, hood, and interior insulation (standard with Type LT)"
Yes, my car does have this. In 1977, the MSRP for this was $57.00, wholesale $44.45.

Thanks for the info, Nick. I've got the 3 ring binder "Dealer Book" for 1977, and I'll check that out later. My recollection is that most of the cars I've seen had the "simulated" look dash, not the plain light gray one, but I could be wrong. Those of you who have the "simulated" dash and also have a build sheet, do you show the Z54 option on it?
Also, I'm sure there was a time when I was very aware of this, but must have forgotten ... was it possible to order the Z28 package on a Type LT Camaro (sort of like the old RS/SS cars of old)? I'll double check that in the binder as well, but those of you with build sheets can check that also, please. Thanks, folks.
Nick, I've been spending a lot of time away from home at my girlfriend's house 40 miles away, but recently brought down my '77 Z literature for this project. I've got those extra mags and will get them out ASAP. Also, soon as I can figure out her set-up, I'll scan a few interesting tidbits and post them here for all of you.

Dawg, it was late when I wrote that, and I missed it on your build sheet. Thanks.

I have just a couple of minutes before I head off to work, but the Dealer Book shows Z54 as being available on Camaros only, standard on the LT and extra cost on the Sport Coupe. There is a seperate booklet in there for available options on all Chevies, and there's nothing in it other than that.

The Camaro sales brochure however states that it includes: "simulated leather trim on the instrument cluster, additional instrument lighting (?), glove compartment light, additional body sound insulation, and one-piece hood insulation".

It appears that there were two Camaro models available in 1977, the base Sport Coupe and the LT, and the Z28 option (it wasn't a seperate model) could be ordered on either. So, who has a Sport Coupe, and who has an LT? Because of the extra cost, I bet the majority of them are Sport Coupes (the one I ordered was).

Mikey, what color is the dash face, and did you find a build sheet in the car? Thanks.

Mine had a solid color light tan bezel....ugly as hell....changed over to engine turned dash. See pics.

When I bought the car it was sitting on the side of a gas station in Pompano Bch for 7 years, the seats were the first things replaced

Had a black vinyl interior, still have the seats, but switched to 78 T/A cloth, much nicer. See pics.

I have NEVER seen a Z 28 with an LT interior from the factory in 1977. Never even heard of such a thing.

I have never seen a 1977 real Z28 of any color....with a red, white and blue header emblem. Only black, orange and red like mine.

Or ANY chrome moulding around the back of the hood.

I have Never seen a 1977 real Z28 with a stripe delete??

Not written in stone,,,Just what I have seen at shows, cowl tags ect>>>>>>>>>>>>Ken

Thanks Ken! As I said earlier in this thread, I've seen about 3 dozen of these cars over the years. I can't remember seeing any with the LT interior (cloth seats), but could be that I may have and just didn't notice.
All of them had a header emblem panel with striping to match the car's stripes, not red, white & blue. Some had the roof drip molding, I believe, but can't remember any with chrome anywhere else. Most didn't have side molding, or bumper guards. Wished I'd paid more attention to things like that back then. Never saw a stripe delete car, but out of 14,ooo plus cars, I'll bet there was at least one of any variation you could think of. Most had the simulated leather dash, but many did not.

Rich M, My instrument panel face was a very light beige, not the gray or simulated leather. I have the standard interior, black, in vinyl. Exterior is silver with red-orange striping. When I first bought the car, I did not like the color and I painted it black. Now I wish I had not done that! I had not seen this color on other 77's. I may have a picture of it when I bought the car, I will have to look. My 77 has the Z 49 canadian package, but I do not know what that means! The original owner kept the car for 24 years , and the only deviation he made from stock was a radio and headers. Dan

Since we seem to be on the interior of the 77 a Q. My door panels don't match anything I can find. They "seem" to be the same age as the car. They are a whole door vinyl (no map pocket) with a rattan grain looking center. I orr. thought it might have come from a firechicken or something till a few months ago. I found a 77 LT in town with the identicle door panels as well as the orr. seats (white vinyl) that had the "rattan" looking insert down the center of the seats. Has anybody seen this? The cars both have power windows, his had an LT badge in the door pan. while mine just has a camaro stripe badge. I was told it should be the same black and silver badge that's on the horn button.
