I recently joined a chopper forum like this one. When you post on there, you can insert a pic from your hard drive rather than needing a url to host a pic on. Is that too big of a PITA to do here, or can we easily be upgraded? Link ti that chopper forum:

I tend to get myself in trouble for elaborating too much, so I'll just say that I wouldn't plan on seeing that feature added here.

Hate to 'Stir the pot', but if everyone chipped in $1 or $2 in order to post (reading is free) would that cover the cost?

That's not gonna happen either.

"If you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because
it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

It's not a matter of cost or space as my understanding goes. It's more along the lines of the complexity of the customization of the original ubb software.

Support, space and security are the major issues. I get at least 2 emails/day from people who can't even register to post a question. Let alone having to explain to them how to upload pictures to the host. Then there's the 5MB fuzzy bitmap of someones nekkid girlfriend posted after a drunken binge around 3AM for all to see until someone (me) removes it. Or moves it somewhere else. The last one is self-explanatory.

Allowing this is opening oneself up to major (potential) abuse. I don't believe it's worth it with the alternatives that are available. We (several members) even host/post pictures for people who don't have the ability to.
