Hi Mike,

How are the family members coming along? Haven't seen anything re: how they are doing?

Hope everyone is coming through the recovery process alright????

Things get better by the day. Laura can walk unassisted, but she has a heavy limp. She's in rehab.

Dan: we find out monday if he can have his back brace taken off finally. He's in a different rehab program now. He's back in school, but only goes 1/2 a day and has a schedule tailored to his needs and abilities.

Kyle has a permanent scar between his eyes and across his forhead, where his forhead was torn off.

The other side of this is the emotional aspect. To say this was devastating to all of us is an understatement. I know trey saw everything. He constantly talks about seeing dan dead. He worries we'll all die. He took a back seat to dan for the past 3 months and that in itself is causing him to do odd things. Same with kyle. Dan said weird things. I posted them in the special projects area. Back when this happened, my dad thought I got hit in the head too cause what I told him about dan. But now that my dad knows some of what dan "said"... I don't know what he thinks.

Another thing I recently found out: I thought I saw a "medical lady" attending to dan during the wreck. I checked into it and found out a lady (witness - who's occupation was listed as a nurse at the hospital we were eventually were brought to) did make a statement to the police. Her arrival time at the accident was 7:10pm. The 1st ambulance on the scene arrived at 7:18PM. I am positive this lady saved dans life. I know who she is too but haven't contacted her yet.

In other news, I'm finally back to work, so while that's good, it puts more of the load on laura. She has to coordinate everything and run everyone around. My dad is in town for a month helping her.

I put my thoughts and recollection down elsewhere. I didn't want to broadcast my stuff all over the message board.

I was lucky to be too busy to worry about a lot of things over the past couple months. What was going on with everyone being concerned on the board helped me deal with the stuff as it was happening. At least I hope that's what I feel.

Where as with laura, things are hitting her now, and she's more aware of what I was doing. Plus she doesn't have the luxury of remembering what happened to her.

Seeing dans progress, and knowing we're all alive when we shouldn't be makes me feel better too. But at least once a day I have flash backs of what happened. Physically my knee is numb but I don't limp anymore. I've got a couple scars on my arm/hand that are now purple, and my back hurts every morning for an hour or so. Compared to what everyone else got, I generally don't boohoo about that.

For me every day after 6/10 is a bonus.
It brought me & laura closer to each other again. Lots of miracles happened that I can see now.

Mike,

I know that I am not the only person, thinking about how your family is doing.

Our prayers are still with you and the family, and the on going road to recovery!

Thanks for the update.

Madmike, I specifically remember your reply to my post about my daughter having surgery and wanted to thank you. To have you reply when I know your family has been through a whole helluva lot more than me!

Thanks folks. Dan did get his brace off monday. You can see his back fracture, but the surgeon doesn't think it'll require attention now. I got a school picture of all the kids, I should post them later.

Pete, being in the hospital, especially for a child is scary. The scary part for us is behind us now and I was hoping some of what helped me would come in handy for you.

Mike,
I know this sounds like a cliché, but if there is anything Julie and I can do, just ask.

I'm mostly a pretty hard person, I don't let peoples problems bother me, I have enough of my own. For some reason your situation is on my mind often. (Maybe 'cause I got bashed up several times as a kid)
I'm pretty choosy about who my peers are and I have a lot of respect for ordinary people who, in my eyes, do great things.
You make a lot of otherwise pretty important people look downright weak. You and your family will be OK, just takes time.
Cheers
