Since I am STILL looking for work after finishing my degree at WSU I have a little free time on my hands. I am willing to code up some little tools that could be posted on the site to help some folks out.

Just let me know what would be easiest to add to the site. Whethere it be Applets, Java or PHP scripts, or whatever.

For tools I was thinking about a tire size conversion calculator that would take the metric tire size (225/60/15) and covert into overall diameter inches, width, and revolutions per mile. Then it could offer similar tire sizes for different diameter wheels ie. going from 15" to 17" but keeping overall diameter the same.

Or a gear ratio calculator, or an 1/4 mile ET estimator.

I there are a lot of similar programs on WWW, but it would be nice for the SGCOG site to have its own.

Just let me know if you Admins are interested.

Can you make me a chat server program that works with all the chanserv and nickserv commands, so we dont need to use an outside service. Something I can host on my site or we can get Mike to host.

that would be great

I hadn't been to the chat room, but I checked it out and it is sub-optimal...

Building one from scratch might be really time consuming, but let me dig around. I might be able to find an open source program we can use or hack up.

I am not too familar with CGI. I take it those commands will take the SGCOG username and automatically use it as the chat nickname?

Also, are one of you guys running a linux server?

I appriciate your excitement about this.

I thought about it for a while. I'm not one to try and reinvent the wheel, and there are a fair amount of auto related calculators out there - if you'd like to make some more for inclusion into this places tech area - that would be nice.

I also thought about putting all the camaro data into a "slick database". And/or the engine codes into a database - kinda like this:
http://www.nastyz28.com/cgi-bin/dbman/db.cgi?db=engcode&uid=default

but it requires a lot of "data entry" or bitch work as I call it, and nobody seems to use it (the engine code database) to begin with.

I know of another person who's making a trim tag decoder for 2nd gen cars. I was helping him test it - but that seems to be on the back burner. Due to the varied info for 2nd gens, this isn't straight forward like a 2 or 3 year run of cars where presentation is standardized.

If you could build a utility to take the VIN and trim tag info, and then present a page specific to the car being inquired about - that would be slick. You could include the paint chip, interior fabric swatch, engine info, options, etc... all pulled out of this places flat data pages. sweet. But that would be graduate work.

I'm sure I could think of other functions. email me offline.

This site is not on a linux server, nor is it on anything mrG had anything to do with.
