Guys, I'm crying reading the support I'm getting from you. You can see this type of support happens throughout everyone on the site, not just me. When one person hurts, we all hurt and everyone comes together.

My father is crying. He knows why this place is so special to a lot of people.
My whole family appriciates what everyone is doing and your prayers are working.

With that out of the way:
Dan had made it through another critical period of 24 - 36 hours of survival after the accident. He was just removed from his room to get some more tests done (which is why I can come post an update). The trauma people are being extrememly careful with him.
They think his neck/spine are ok, but want to check it better. If the test comes back as ok, they're remove his C collar. Then if he can breath well on his own, they'll remove him from the respirator. Then they'll gradually reduce his sedatives to get him to wake up.
He's wired up pretty well and was pissed off enough he tried to remove all the stuff the dr's poked into him, so they had to strap him down. So he's not paralized. There's no brain damage or internal swelling, no internal bleeding.

Laura has a broken femur. She's in another hospital in Gainesville GA where I was. 50 miles north of here. Kyle wasn't released due to swelling around his eye. She's hurting really bad and I can tell they got her riding on her magic carpet. I will also say, if danny wasn't airlifted to Atlanta... how the police have treated this case, would have come to pass.

This accident is being pursued as a fatal accident with charges pending.
I was blood tested.
The guy who was sideswipped was blood tested.
The guy who hit me was blood tested.

My van is impounded. What's left of the box truck is impounded. The accident investigation people documented the scene.

The fellow who hit me admitted to falling asleep. He's also being tested for "toxic inhalents", since he was carrying solvents. I don't agree to how this may play out for this fellow. I probably shouldn't say that but I just did.

The fellow was charged with crossing the median. With further charges possible.

Estimated closing speed between me and the truck is over 105 mph. I stopped immediately.

I sit here and think. Our number was called teusday. Because of the airbag, and seatbelts - we all get a second chance. Danny was called but came back. I believe I know why Dan wasn't ready. I'll keep that to myself for now. Lastly, dan has a way to go, and there's no guarantee that his condition won't deteriorate. He's being injected with anti-biotics and occasionally spikes a temp, but his prognosis is still good. Not excellent, not pretty good. But "good".

I gotta go because it's close to the time for dan to be coming back from his tests.

Thanks again to all of you for your concern and support.

Mike

Dear Mike, I'm sure everyone is amazed that you are actually taking time out to post this..If everyone's like me, we're checking every few hours waiting for an update. What wonderful news about Dan! Each little improvement counts for so much. As a mother of a couple of small boys I can't imagine one of them being seriously hurt or ill and not being able to be by his bedside, as is the case with your wife. My heart really goes out to her. Now the whole burden is on your shoulders, and you seem to be handling it better than anyone would have imagined, including, I guess, yourself. I hope the encouragement and support you're getting eases your pain a little.
Nancy

When the time comes that you can relax (I know that wont be for a while)then make sure you do something for you. We are all here for you and will gladly do anything we can. Dannys neck & spine was just cleared. So no more C-collar. His condition is still critical but stable.

3 different IV's & breathing tubes in his lungs and a pump into his stomach still.
The long term big hurdle for him is somewhat cosmetic. His nose and eyeball bones were smashed. Apparently in a way which is fixable. (in otherwords, they "THINK" there's a crack here, and possibly there. They didn't come out and say - "oh yeah, it's a friggin jig-saw puzzle in there).

due to the swelling, they need to wait to see what they have to work with. The cat scans show no nerve damage.

He keeps jumping the hurdles. One step at a time.

The library closes at 5PM.
This is a public computer, so I'm not checking email. I appriciate everything.

As I wipe the tiers from my eyes once again Thank You for keeping us updated. I feel close to Danny as my middle name is Daniel and as a kid I always went by Danny, my mom still calls me her "Danny boy" Having said that I can say it seems like most Dan's always seem to get hurt more then other names but always bounce back.I'm sure he is as resilient as all the other Dan's I know including myself. My hopes and prayers are still with the family and I'll keep saying and extra one for Danny.

MadMike,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you try to slowly put your life together again. This board has been great to post on for the past couple years, and a great diversion as I recover from my bone marrow transplant. The 71 RS in the garage is anxiously awaiting my return to restoration.
Be strong & God Bless!
