Guys. I'm in the library of Egleston Childrens hospital. This hospital is the best childrens trauma center in the south east. Yesterday we went out to eat dinner and then were heading to Gainesville GA. to find where laura was supposed to be going to school the next day. On our way, a cube van crossed the median, sideswipped a pickup/trailer in front of me, and then proceded to come head on with me. We came to an immediate and abrupt stop. The van that hit us was carrying solvents/chemicals and caught on fire and started exploding. Laura was unconcious and pinned in the Astro. It seems just in time the fire truck arrived and they started extinguishing the flames, and the jaws of life were used to cut open the side of the astro to remove laura. When laura was out of the van, I collapsed. More long story short: Laura - broken leg. They operated on her and put her leg back together. She's doing as well as expected. I don't know how long she'll be in the hospital. We have friends who are with her. My 2 other boys are going home with other friends. As for Danny, he's got a fractured skull. Broken nose, Swelling in the head, but his prognosis is good. He's alive. He's in the best place he can be. At one time he was in a coma on life support. He's being weaned off life support now, and his swelling is being monitored. There are no internal injuries. His condition is "stable". He's not out of the woods, but things look good. We're overwelmed by the outpouring of support and prayers from you guys and gals. You are all extended family. Prayers work. |

I can't even begin to imagine a worse scenario or if I could have responded as you did. As you said, adrenaline kicked in and you did what you had to do. It will be a long road back for everyone, both physically and emotionally but if it helps, there's lots of people with you in our thoughts. |

Mike, You know we're nearby .. anything we can do, please don't hesitate to ask. If you need someone to help watch the boys or anything, let me know. I'm emailing my phone # to you. Thank god everyone looks to be O.K. Take a long look in the mirror and thank god yourself for the ability to act and think like you did under such pressure and for your family to be alright. Egleston is good, you're right you've got the best resources available to you. |

Mike, You did what any normal man would have done - tried to save his family. Regardless and neglecting your own condition. Adrenalin is a sweet thing when its in full bore. Dood, I REALLY doubt though how many other people would have gone in and done what you did. That kind of bravery deserves recognition. Honestly. I'm happy as hell to hear that the kids, Laura and you are 'OK'. Being in the hospital is better than other places. I'm sure you've thanked whomever you wanted to for their safety and health. Your kids are ruffnecks like mine are. They'll pull thru easily. If sending something to Davey like some balloons or some toy or something is cool with you all and the hospital, I'll pop something out there. Same for Laura. Hell, for all of you. You know we have your back here. We'll pass along the situation as it unfolds to the masses. You're more well-known than you'd prolly imagine. And plenty of folks out there in 'INTERNET LAND' have your back too.... |
