I notice we have several of each. What is each titles responsibilities and duties? Do administrators have more to do with what direction the site takes and moderators pretty much just weed out the improper/misplaced topics? Just curious.

Admins have "power" (term used extremely loosely) over any and all topic areas on the board. Mods exercise "control" (again, a term used as loosely as your favorite loafers) over a few of the topic areas.

So how are these positions chosen? Is it kind of an invitation thing when MadMike feels more are needed or when someone gives up their duties?

Yes, MadMike selects them.

In my case I got an unsolicited e-mail after particpating here for a while.

[/sarcasm on]

Given that my brilliance glows as brightly as a thousand suns I was an obvious choice. I am not sure how (or why) some of my "peers" (another loosely used term) were selected.

[/sarcasm off].
