1970 Z28 with RS package steering wheel.
The OP is asking about a 1971, I think 1970 will be different since there was only 1 steering wheel available versus 2 or 3 in 1971. According to the info that twoz's posted in post #10 it should say Chevrolet. So based on that it appears that the steering wheel in question is correct. If the car had Z23 option (woodgrain accents) or deluxe interior then it would say Camaro.
Thanks for sorting that for me, I did conclude it was probably correct based on the posts even though the years and photos where different. Thanks for the conclusion I appreciate it. Rich
if you notice the pictures that 74bibelot and BKmont posted are 70 cars . the 70 had the black inner pad surrounding the gauge bezel ( only 70 ) . here it states the about the wood grain horn shroud for the RS or SS with the custom interior ( this is 70 )
... in the 71 screen shot it states that the RS horn shroud WILL be black not wood grain
This is from Mad Mike's Restoration document on this site.. Doesn't this mean he would have 'RS' on the steering wheel for RS/Z28..
I think if it is an RS/Z28 with standard 2 spoke wheel you get an RS and if you have the NK4 4 spoke wheel, you get the plain black logo, per the asterisk at the bottom of the document..
Additional Features included when the Z22 Rally Sport option was ordered are: hidden wipers (rpo C24), and the Z21 Style Trim group (for 1970 & 71 only) - which includes body colored insert on door handles, bright window, body, sill and hood panel moldings plus bright accented parking lights, tail lights and backup lights.
IF the Z22 option was ordered on a Z28, Super Sport or Type LT (1973), the "Rally Sport" emblems were not placed on the car anywhere (except on the steering wheel if the car is a Z28). Nowhere in or on the car will it say "RS". The RS option is not coded into the vin, nor is it on the trim tag.
NK4 always got the bow tie . The document I provided is of standard steering wheel
