Are you certain that it's an 1980? That looks like the computer that was first put into the Camaro in 1981. If that truely is an 1980, I have no idea what that could be....unless I'm mistaken and 1980 was the first year of the computer controlled emissions...

An 81 could still have a 1980 build date ( late year). Could have been one of the first of the model year. Does the console have a open space at the front under the radio? If not it's an 81 console.

If it was an 81, it can't be registered as an 80. That is illegal, so you can bet it is really an 80. NB2 is California emissions, and the 80 Camaro with NB2 had the computer that the other 49 states got on the 81. NB2 did include the ECM under the dash, and to make that fit, you would need the console used in the 81 models for the other 49 states.

I think California cars started the CCC setup in 1980. I'd check things out, because that's for sure an ECM ;)

Yes, GM started putting the ECM computers in all their 1980 cars that were equipped with California Emmissions. That is definetly an ECM pictured there. 1981 was when GM extended it to all their cars. I bet the harmonic balancer on the engine in your '80 Z28 does not have any timing marks either. This is another way you can determine if its a California Emmissions equipped car or not. Hope this helps! ;)

its been a while since i last saw my Chilton's manual, but I seem to remember there being two different systems between 80 and 81 - the 1980 being a Command Control Module, and the ECM arriving in 1981. I don't think the earlier version was a full management system...as for California only I wouldn't have a clue.
