my boss will only buy harbor freight for us when we need tools and stuff like that, but i have gotten very good at sharpening bits, I just have to do it alot with the cheap bits. I guess my contribution to the discussion is dont get harbor freight bits even if they have a pretty gold color.

Thanks for info everyone, it's helpful.

I hear what you are saying, but the issue with these Bosch is that they either break or the tips lose their coating and are worthless. It's not that they got dull.

You guys need to look outside your own backyards.

There are plenty of great drill bit manufacturers worldwide.

The best are most likely from England - Dormer brand, Starret, Sutton

    Australia has Frost, Sutton, JBS.

The best I've used are from New Zealand of all places - a brand named P&N
    (Patience and Nicholson)

Take a look on ebay and search worldwide.

We seem to have good luck with Bowman and Dormer where I work. Mastercraps drill like three awesome holes then stop working and the CTD's we tried all broke too easily. I've heard Butterfields are good too. Not saying that I'm any good with drills, but the way you use them is the deciding factor of whether they are good or not.
