Well I have a local 1/8th mile track about 800 feet in elevation and wanted to get an idea of what it would run.

    383 stroker
    Electric fans
    Msd ignition
    750cfm Quickfuel
    Vortec heads
    282/288 comp cam
    5.7 rods
    413hp @5800rpm
    452tq @4200rpm
    2200rpm stall (prolly need 3,000)
    Th350 trans with b&m stage 2
3.42 gears, lake wood traction bars
    All steel street trim (3600ish?)
Airshocks and 15x10 cragars, going to swap to c/e drag shocks with 15x8 rims and m/t streets.

I'm just wanting to know what I should expect in the 1/8th with my set up or what I should do to make it run what it should, thanks

You need a taller gear for the 1/8th, probably will barely be ready to shift to 3rd before you cross the line. I am going to guess a 7.1 to a 7.4 depending on how she hooks up

3.73 or 4.10? And the dyno numbers are at the flywheel

If you are strictly going to run 1/8th mile I would go with the 4.10's
If you want any street drivability then go with the 3.73
My first car I ever raced with I switched from 3.73's to 4.10's and was quite impressed with the difference

How much did swapping gears help you out?

Its been over 10 years so my memory is a little faint but I had a 68 camaro prostreet that had a roughly 420hp small block stroker, a Turbo 400 2800 stall with 3.73 gears and it ran 8.0 flat, cant remember the mph but I never shifted out of 2nd in the 1/8th mile
When I swapped in the 4.10's and some bigger jets and minor tuning the car ran a best of 7.46 in the 1/8th and I was hitting 3rd thru the traps

4.10 to 4.56 gears if you want lower ET's in the 1/8th mile . And yes you will need a 3k stall to get your car to 60'

As your car sits right now 7.50 to 8.50 1/8th mile ET

.4 from gears and tuning in the 1/8th sounds pretty impressive, what carb did you have on it if you remember?

Drop the pressure to 20 PSI (max.) in the air shocks for better load transfer and you might break 8.50. (Gotta shoot for a sub 2 sec. 60'.)
The low stall and 3.42s should let you hammer it as hard as you can from the line without worrying about traction.
(Better tires and higher stall will help in the future.)

It's not actually a bad combo overall but it's not really a drag racing setup as an 1/8th mile will get pretty much eaten up in 1st and 2nd gear with that 3.42 rear.
3rd will be close to the traps... Might be redline dependent.
(Either rip through the traps at 6K or spend that split second of acceleration by shifting to 3rd just before the finish.)

I'm really curious what it does.
(Don't feel bad about the results. First runs can be quite sobering.)

    Keep us posted!
