Hi looking for some help to see if any one has installed a Chevy crate engine under a stock 1981 Z-28 air induct hood. Was looking at Chevy performance SP350/357, SP350/385 orZZ6 engine. I'm trying to keep everything under a stock hood. Or other crate engines that do work. :)
    Thanks for the help!!

Most any carburated small block will fit Use a Performer or equivalent manifold will fit. What "look" are you looking for.

Yeah the intake manifold typically drives Underhood clearance along with the air filter assembly. Pretty much any dual plane manifold will fit with a typical air filter.

    LS3.....lol

A RPM Performer intake will require a drop base cleaner, but it will fit.

I had a real hard time with hood clearance on my 81. Went with the yearone crate motor and it cam with a performer rpm air gap. Ended up with drop base bottomand a 2 ans 1/2 k&n with a flat filter top to get it not to hot my hood. I think the fresh motor mounts brought it up some.

Thanks! I was thinking the "sleeper" look, thus keeping the stock hood in place.

I forgo....Also lose the wing nut. Cut the air cleaner stud down and just use a hex nut.

Then what ever small block you get just paint it factory blue, including the intake..And use an earlier Q-jet and distributor,Since yours is computer controlled.

Even a big block will fit. Just have to worry about the air cleaner hitting. Can't use a high rise intake with spacer. You could go with a different hood like Z spoiler, but the sleeper look will be gone. Then you won't have to worry about clearance as much.
