Trying to figure out which engine I have

    Hey guys Im trying to identify the engine in my 1973 Camaro. I know its a 427 but Im trying to figure out which one it is. Is there a way to tell?

    look at the casting # on the back by distributor next to bell housing. Also check the VIN stamp on the front pass side deck,Then check the site here for the decoding.

    Is this visible when the engine is in the car.

    Yes the casting numbers on bell housing flange (behind distributor) and info stamped on the block deck behind alternator should all be viewable with engine in the car. You may need to clean surfaces with a wire brush and a rag to read them. Cell phone cameras work pretty good too for getting into tough spots.
