In 1918, 99 years ago, on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, peace broke out in Europe, ending the first world war. Less than a week prior, my great-uncle Jake was shot, bayoneted and gassed during a German attack in the trenches. He had a mad on anything German the rest of his life. Understandable but pretty bad when your last name is Schlagg. He spent the next 10 years in military hospitals.

To the more recent Americans who have served my nation, thank you.

Maybe you weren't in the Army or Special Forces. Still, I think this video will do justice. (Anybody who doesn't at least get a lump in their throat doesn't know how good we have it here!)

If the U.S. Army called me and told me they needed me, I would ask where and when. Served with some fantastic people who became family.
