TM2R Edelbrock Intake - big block - any good?

I have the Edelbrock TM2R intake (the carb sits diagonally to the engine, I think they are called Tarantulas). Is it any good? I know it is kinda old school but seriously - how much better can an intake get.

It is medium rise - I already picked up my steel cowl hood.

My question is - If I went back to a low rise (stockish) intake and used my original hood - would I be missing out on much performance?

very good intake for a BBC with retangular port heads ,it's rpm range is 4000- 7200rpm . i've got one of these intakes in my garage just waiting on a bbc to put it on !!

the reason for the angled carb pad is for better fuel distribution

I have 049 heads (open chamber oval ports). Still good to go? I think stock redline is 4,800 (1972 396), but it is somewhat built. I would feel comfortable up to 5,500 rpms.

I may have overcarbed a little (770 Holley) but I will build a 454 one of these days and then I can just swap everything over.

For a 5500 396 a smallish dual plane will do the trick, like a Performer O

I am running a 1050 on the track on my 427 (438 really) so a 770 is perfect for a 396. I would run performer rpm on a oval 396 though. Oh the 427 made 20 more hp with the 1050. I use a 750 dominator on the street.

Your killing lots of power w/ that thing oval a Perf. RPM. I'd run the Perf. RPM Air Gap if you have the hood clearance. Hot Rod did a test of intakes on BBC's and it was the best one.
