Timing pointers at 12:00?

    Just remark the new one where you wont, If both are the same size, Just put the motor at tdc. befor you take the old one off. Cut a new mark at the same place as old one was.

    Anybody know why they put that round tube on the 12:00 pointer? I was always curious bout that.

    Not remember well, but I think GM had a tool to check timing w/o timing gun.

    Not sure why you are having such trouble finding a balancer. The "12:00" position balancers are known as 45* offset balancers (the timing mark is 45* from the keyway centerline). "2:00" position balancers are called 13* offset balancers (timing rak is 13* from the keyway centerline). You can get either in 8" or 6-3/4" diameter from your local parts store.

    I've always just strolled into the local auto parts store and found them by application.
