I have 78 Z with the original LM1 in it and my timing pointers on the timing chain cover are at 12:00, i'm trying to buy a new harmonic balancer because the original spun and when i punch up 1978 camaro 350 at summit or jegs it comes up with the 2:00 pointer location for the balancer?
Has anyone else came across this before?
    Thanks for the help

    My 78 with a 305 had the 12 o'clock timing pointer.
    Are you sure it's a 350?

If you're sure it's a 350....Get the balancer for a 2 o'clock position and replace the pointer with one which matches it.
(I'm pretty sure the position of the timing cover bolts is the same so the new pointer should bolt on without issue.)

Buying a cheap (tab) pointer for the 2 o'clock position is the most simple way to do this. I spent the extra samolias and bought an adjustable pointer and then verified tdc, that's just me.

Yes its a 350, i'm quite sure the timing cover and the balancer are original, i guess i'm not sure why a new balancer for this motor isn't at 12:00

Considering it's almost impossible to see that 12 o'clock pointer.... I wouldn't worry about the looks.

You are right twisted,I'd rather time it at 2:00 then 12, but I am curious to know why I can't get a balancer for 12 o'clock.

I didn't realize they had the 12:00 timing mark in the 70's. I always hated timing them at 12:00. I wouldn't hesitate to change it.

I just realized i can't change it because the a/c bracket is in the way of seeing the 2 o'clock position, I have to stay with the 12 o'clock.
So as I said earlier I only can get the 2 o'clock one, would I go with that one and change the timing mark on the balancer so it can be read at 12 o'clock?

    I have a 2 o'clock pointer on my 350, with factory A/C.
it's not easy to see when timing but you can see it well enough.
