Not an expert, but have done several transmissions so far.

You need to compress the ring like I said before and use transmission lube to hold it in this position. Lube the bore as well.

Then wiggle it in and check from time to time if it's still compressed after a few tries or you might score the bore or the ring.

Got it in!! Lubraplate engine assembly lube helped. Now I want a firmer shift and need a different spring than green. Can anyone advise me on this. Thanks to everyone.

Throw the spring into your neighbor's yard. That's what I did! I race my car and it shifts RIGHT NOW. It will be very quick and firm on the 1-2.

So don’t run a spring at all? A man here in town said he used to drag race and he put a bolt in place of the spring but once it came thru the cover. I am just cruising my car no racing. What about a stiffer spring?

Should be flying through the air already! The first time I saw a transmission builder do this I freaked out. He threw mine across the parking lot. LOL. Been doing to ever since when I do a shiftkit install. I only use the full Transgo kit BTW.

On the fence about no spring but it can’t hurt to try it I guess. I won’t be driving it till spring though.
