Hi all, I have an 81 z28 with all original guages. Everything works fine except the tach. It works, but reads 3k at idle & 7500 at 70 mph. What should I check? Should I replace the wire from tach to firewall to coil? Or check grounds? & where are the grounds located? Thank you! This is getting quite frustrating!

I'm getting ready to tackle it on my 81, as well. I put it in the paint shop and when it came back most of the eletrical works. I have electrical diagrams if you need me to look up anything.

Most likely the tach is shot. You can contact Daniel, one of our site sponsors at http://gaugemarks.com/ Best way to get him is to call phone number lilsted in contact info. He's worked on my gauges and has a solid reputation here.

Edit... lol - didn't look where this thread was posted.

Sorry, I meant to say most of the electrical had stopped working.

does your car have a tach filter? My 77Z runs fine without one, but your car could be different.
