I am original owner of a special ordered 74 Type LTZ28 which still has the original Muncie M20 wide ratio transmission. I also have the posi 3.73:1 rear end.

Its in the 74 assembly manual as well for both 3.73 and 3.42

if you look at the 14 inch tire M20 that was the wide ratio saginaw 4 speed ( cast iron ) . gm called both wide ratio transmissions , saginaw and muncie an M20 . it depended on the car it was ordered on .

Correct. The letter "M" is NOT to be confused with and meant to mean Muncie. M20,M21 are just codes used by GM (generally meant M20-for wide ratio & M21- for close ratio transmission. Muncie trans ALL had the aluminum cases. Saginaw had cast iron cases.
