    John,

I will lay odds 99.9% of people don't do it.
Like Mike previously said Miller, Hobart, Lincoln, Thermodyne, etc people have more
faith in their electrical components because of their long history of reliability.

This is why I'm wanting the most safety with this one because it's Harbor Freight. (china)
I was looking at (China) Everlast and Longevity but a few things stopped me.
#1. Too many staged reviews by people with just 1 post count on forums.
#2. Customer service and warranty work over long distances is a major PITA.
#3. Harbor Freight is cheap and nearby so easier to deal with problems.
#4. Harbor Freight has numerous positive reviews and video's so I felt it was the better buy.
#5. Longevity VS Everlast by a professional yielded very poor results for Longevity.

I just tried to google that term without much luck.....

Which is why I was concerned with running a 20+ foot long ground wire.

But.....as Mike pointed out the grounding rod would cause ground loops,
so the wire is the best bet for safety so that's the route I'm going today. :)

Turns out this thing worked beautifully, but the LED display and knob didn't work for amperage adjustment.

So I ended up returning it.
The LED readout always showed 0000 unless I hit the trigger it would show 15 amps.
The dial wouldn't change it at all.
