Ok, I have to admit that I love making stuff for the Shed and the latest thing is a wooden anvil, all it is, is a bit of Aus hard wood and a metal base, I was getting sick of beating thing on the bench and so on, and this idea came into my head and it works perfect, also good for punching out gaskets as you are working on end.

It may not look it but it is the ideal height for me to work at. so what thing have you made that helps you out a lot

Wow, I haven't seen a wooden anvil in years. About 1965 or so. A friend of my grandfather was an old time black smith. For hot work, he used the traditional steel anvil. For cold hammering he had a special anvil with a large block of hard wood that would fit into an insert. It was quieter and got a better finish when he was working with softer metals.

Thread topic could be misleading. Especially when the pic is of a large chunk of wood with a metal base.

    Just sayin'.
