If you google "1972 Camaro Z28 VIN decoder" the fist 2 hits you get will bring you to the proper "nastyz28" link and will give you all the info.

Just looking quickly, It seams like it was built in Dec 71, second week, by the 12B, I may be wrong on this. Looking at an old document I have for my 72 Z says,

    779- Light tan-standard interior
    57-57 Golden brown paint upper/lower
    YF8 - black stripes
    Total 1972 Z/28 produced, 2575
    Total M22 produced , 767

Hope this helps out, and welcome to the site Ranger11

Thanks! Trying to figure out a couple things on it. I've been told Z28's didn't have stripes on spoiler...the accelerator pedal doesn't hinge on firewall....the steering wheel is supposed to be a four spoke?

Stripes were painted on the rear 3-pc spoiler just like the 1971 (straight down to the end of the spoiler, not rounded). 1972 Z28 would have the hanging gas pedal. 1970ā€“71 were the only years with the floor mounted gas pedal. Rear ā€œZ28ā€ emblem on the spoiler is a foil decal. Iā€™m pretty sure the NK4 steering wheel was an option in 72 and not standard until 73.

I figured it was someone who thought they knew what they were talking about....mine also doesn't have an 8k tach, it all looks original to me.

Found one of these original sales brochures in the stack of stuff that came with the car!

    No...motor was replaced with a correct 1972 LT1 Z28 engine.

Story I got was original engine wasn't properly maintained and threw a rod through block.
