I went and pulled all of my I/S I could find. There is an early and late design. One of the later designs is marked as having been removed from a 75. You may just have the wrong I/S. If so and you can not find one locally let me know and I'll send you one of mine.

Shazzam, shazzam, shazzam!!! I think you have solved the mystery. I never knew there were 2 different I/S. Mine is like the upper one in your pic. As you're sitting in the car, the shaft bolt is on the left side and the flange bolts are at 3 & 9 o'clock.

But where your pins are on the upper pic, mine has been cut off or were never there to begin with.

So now back to an earlier question, where can I find an I/S?

BTW if they made 2 different intermediate shafts then there are also 2 different steering column shafts. Did you change either one?

Its a 79 and I never changed either, but I bought the car in '94 so who knows what has been done to it!

Most GM cars went to the double D shaft in 79. The X body didn't but it was the last year for that style, can not say for sure on the F body. The column in my car is from an 82 Eldorado (tilt/telescopic) so I used an I/S with the double D.
If that lower shaft in the photo will solve your problem you can have it for the cost of shipping. PM your address and I'll send it out Tuesday.

Yes, I took a long time the restore it, its only been on the road for a couple years. My steering wheel was centered at about 2 o'clock but I thought that would be fixed with an alignment. Well, the alignment went the other way and things are as you see. I'll pm my address.
