I have been having problems with front end alignment and steering wheel alignment. Here is the issue: With my front tires straight and both tie rod assemblies at equal length, my steering wheel is 90* off center. Even when I center the steering by lock to lock, the top of the steering wheel is at 9 o'clock. I have replaced the rag joint and I even took apart the column housing (never removed the column from the car) for painting. What did I do wrong? Thanks.

I think someone said that the rag joint can be installed 90° off. You may want to see if you can move it there. I messed with mine more than a year ago, so I don't remember if there were four flats on the box or just one.

I don't think I can move the rag joint 90*. It would be either 0* or 180* and it attaches to the steering box only one way.

You can always pull the pitman arm on the steering box (a splined shaft I believe), rotate the wheel to the correct position, and put the arm back on the output shaft.

You don't want to make more turns lock to lock, to one side than the other though, if the pitman arm is already centered.

No, the steering wheel only goes on one way. There is a line stamped in the middle of the shaft that aligns with the top of the steering wheel and it is pointing to 9 o'clock.

Is it possible that the input shaft of the steering box is 90* off?

I may have it I had a similar problem before and I had a slightly bent

upper control arm any alignment shop can verify.
